Kuwait Cancels Over a Million Visas of Expats in 3 Years

Local sources say that Kuwait has taken away more than 1.15 million visas from expats for the past three years. The country has also kicked out thousands of illegal expats who broke the rules about where they could live and work.

In 2022, Kuwait sent home about 40,000 illegal expats who had broken rules about where they could live and work. The Arabic newspaper Al-Qabas says that the residency of 56,279 expats was taken away in the year 2022.

Several things led to the cancellation of these residences, including the owner’s wish to move out and removal orders for breaking labor and residence laws.

Market Recovery and New Entries

Even though the COVID-19 outbreak has had an effect on many fields, the local job market has recently seen a lot of people looking for work. Official figures showed that the job market improved a lot in 2022, when 67,000 people moved to the country for the first time. 64% of these were people who worked in homes.

Expatriates Leaving in 2021

About 750,000 people work as domestic workers in Kuwait. This is about 22% of the total foreign workforce, which is made up of 3.4 million people.

In conclusion, the fact that Kuwait has taken away more than 1.15 million visas from expats in the past three years shows that the country’s job market has changed in a big way. Kuwait is trying to control the labor market and make sure people follow residence and work rules. This is shown by the influx of new workers and the deportation of illegal residents.
