Position Overview

Jumia is seeking an experienced and highly strategic Sorting Centre Manager to define and execute our line-haul logistics strategy. This role is pivotal to maximizing delivery efficiency, reducing operational costs, and embedding best practices across our sorting network. You will lead critical functions in network operations, capacity planning, and strategic expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations and Execution:

Inbound and Handover Management: You will oversee the seamless transition of seller packages from drop-off points and pick-up centers into the Jumia logistics network, ensuring zero disruption.
Systems Integrity and Compliance: A core duty is guaranteeing 100 percent scanning compliance and real-time system updates across all logistics legs to maintain total shipment visibility.
Dispatch Optimization: You will design and implement optimal pick-up cut-off times for third-party logistics partners and our controlled fleet to maximize daily throughput.
Performance Monitoring and Exception Control: Proactively tracking KPIs to identify delays, you will alert Courier Account Managers and implement immediate corrective measures. Furthermore, you hold full accountability for shipment mismatches and end-to-end exception handling within the hub and transit network.
Jumia Express Leadership: You must ensure 100 percent same-day shipping adherence for all Jumia Express orders through rigorous process discipline.
Capacity Building: Leading training programs for partners and hub staff is essential to ensure the smooth adoption of both new and existing operational protocols.

Strategic Project Management:

Infrastructure Expansion: You will develop data-driven business cases for new sorting hubs, complete with capacity modeling and accurate volume projections.
Facility Procurement: Leading property scouting, contract negotiations, and the acquisition of necessary operating licenses falls under your purview.
CAPEX and Financial Planning: You will formulate and defend CAPEX requirements for top management approval, overseeing the full procurement cycle for tools and equipment.
Layout Design: Designing and executing optimized network layouts to ensure maximum workflow efficiency is a critical strategic function.
Resource Planning: You will lead strategic capacity and manpower planning to ensure the facility is fully equipped to meet scaling demands.

Required Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Operations, or Supply Chain Management from an accredited institution.

Intermediate to expert proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills being mandatory, alongside competency in Google Workspace.
Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and Lean manufacturing techniques is highly preferred.
A minimum of five years of proven experience in a high-volume distribution, manufacturing, or production environment, with a specialized focus on logistics and supply chain optimization.
Deep expertise in transportation logistics network management and a thorough understanding of retail and customer service priorities.
Hands-on experience in forecasting, capacity planning, S&OP, carrier negotiations, and delivery performance optimization.
Demonstrated experience managing complex networks and driving large-scale operational strategies.
Exceptional ability to lead, inspire, and manage large, diverse, and often remote operational teams.
High-level analytical thinking with the ability to translate complex data into actionable operational improvements.
A methodical, structured approach to problem-solving with a relentless focus on precision and results.
