Description of the scholarship:

A global exchange program, the MCW Young Leaders Fellowship for 2024, is intended for young people all around the world and is based in the United States. Those between the ages of 18 and 26 who are interested in leadership can take advantage of this program, regardless of their background. Its main objective is to help people acquire the management and leadership abilities needed to tackle problems with economic security, health, and education.

A major component of the MCW Young Leaders Fellowship is a 10-day trip to New York, USA, in July 2024. The fellowship lasts for one year. Notably, there are no prerequisites for language skills like the TOEFL or IELTS.

Launch of the MCW Young Leaders Fellowship Initiative:

One-month online evaluation:

A rigorous period of neighborhood mapping and needs assessment precedes the program’s official start. The skills and information required for young leaders to assess their communities will be provided.

An in-person portion in the USA (10 days):

In July 2024, Young Leaders will travel to the United States for a 10-day trip. Participants must arrive with a specific community issue they hope to address during the fellowship.

Execution of Virtual Projects:

Participants will implement their ideas in their local communities after returning from their trip to the United States.

Where in the United States is the Young Leaders Fellowship hosted?

From July 9 to July 18, 2024, New York, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, will serve as host cities for the 2024 Young Leaders Fellowship.

Students are free to pursue any area of study if they participate in this scholarship program.

  • Lodging: Available from July 8, 2024, in the evening until July 18, 2024
  • Meals: July 9–July 18, 2024, three meals a day
  • Route: New York, New York to Burlington, Vermont; round-trip
  • The JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports are all accessible by public transportation.
  • Lodging: Offered by Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, and New York University in New York

Qualifications for admission:

What Young Leaders Need to Know:

Show a dedication to their community;

Determine a problem pertaining to economic security, health, or education in their society;

At the program’s inception (June 1, 2024), be between the ages of 18 and 26;

Have excellent written and spoken English proficiency;

Agree to complete the Community Needs Assessment by June, participate in the 10-day in-person workshop in July, and dedicate the following year to carrying out their community project;

Be able to communicate consistently with the MCW Global Team and Young Leaders Fellowship alumni-mentor during the course of the year-long program by having access to email and the internet;

Follow the Young Leaders Fellowship graduation requirements (which will be given if you are accepted into the program);

Qualify for the proper visa and travel authorization;

By Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 11:59 PM (NYC EST time), at the latest, submit a completed application.

How to apply:

  • Only English should be used to complete the application.
  • Resumes and letters of recommendation must both be written in English. The application will not be read and will be deemed incomplete if any portion of it is not written in English.

Individuals who are aware of your dedication to your community and work ethic ought to write you letters. It is discouraged for friends and family to write recommendation letters.

At the beginning of the letter, recommenders should include their name, job, contact information, and relationship to the applicant.

All young individuals between the ages of 18 and 26 from all over the world who want to work on community projects related to economic security, health, and education are welcome to apply for the Young Leaders Fellowship Program, a unique leadership opportunity. This year-long program develops leadership skills, global citizenship, self-awareness, and vision planning in order to prepare young people to become change agents in their communities.

By collaborating to effect community change via creative ideas and tangible initiatives, the program staff, mentors, and mentees really realize the goal of Local Change Through Global Exchange®.

What We Provide

The first step of MCW Global’s Young Leaders Fellowship is the Community Needs Assessment, a one-month community needs mapping program designed to help young people from all over the world—ages 18 to 26—better understand their local communities.

Young Leaders take part in an intense one-month virtual program that prepares them to drive positive change in their communities after the assessment of community needs. Following virtual learning, participants work with alumni mentors for ten months to construct their action plans.
