European Union and German Government jobs in Ghana

GIZ, on behalf of the European Union and the German Government, supports the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in a more ecologically sustainable orientation of agricultural production in selected value chains north western Ghana, strengthening the capacity of small-scale producers to effectively supply raw materials to agribusiness MSMEs.

The Market Orientec Agriculture Programme in the North-West of Ghana (MOAP-NW) is part of the project “Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgriBiz)’ and is implemented in 14 districts of the Upper West Region, Savannah Region and North-East regions.

The programme supports the following value chains: Sorghum and Rice, Groundnut and Soya, Cashew and Mango, and Vegetables.

MOAP-NW’s objective is to improve the quality of agricultural produce and to strengthen the competitiveness of agro-based value chains

GENERAL SCOPE

The National Long-Term Expert (NLTE) will be part of the technical team based in Wa. The work is expected to promote organisational development of farmer-based organisations and other common interest groups.

The capacities of those entities to provide services to their members and advocate for their interests are expected to improve. There will be close interaction with other components of the EU Ghana Agriculture Programme (EU-GAP).

SPECIFIC KEY TASKS

• Establish a directory of stakeholders in the supported districts and assess their competencies building needs.
• Sensitisation of village organisations on common interest group management
• Advise on mobilisation of voluntary funding contributions for investments in agricultural infrastructure
• Support the organisational development of Voluntary Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA)
• Support meetings of local stakeholders from the private and public sector to discuss joint activities and capacity with regard to optimisation value chains
• Establish Value Chain Committees, for soyabean, noe, groundnut and sorghum, ensure their self-sustainability and the participation of stakeholders from northern Ghana in national roundtable conferences
• Regular provision of data to feed into the M&E system

YOUR PROFILE

• B.Sc./M.Sc. in Rural Development, Agriculture. Agricultural Sciences, ideally with specialisations in community mobilisation and development
• At least 3 years professional experience in a comparable position
• Very good understanding of agricultural and community development issues and the importance of a gendered approach
• Strong experience in agricultural value chain development and effective collaboration with the private and sector
• Experience with results-based monitoring and report writing
• Experience with working in a multi-cultural environment, with good interpersonal relationship and negotiation skills
• Good working knowledge of the Upper West, Savannah and North-East regions of Ghana
• Other knowledge, additional competences
• Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Package, ICT technologies and other computer applications
• Willingness to travel frequently within the intervention area
• Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and oral proficiency of one or more local languages of North-West, Ghana
