Who You Are?

• You must have an undergraduate degree in a related field with a GPA of at least 2.1; a master’s degree would be advantageous.
• You should be passionate about conducting original research in your field and want to improve your teaching skills by working with an established team for an undergraduate program.
• You will be dedicated to pursuing a Ph.D., highly driven, resilient, and determined to achieve.
• You will also have great written and oral communication skills in addition to excellent organizational abilities.

Please be aware:

If you already hold a Ph.D. in the field for which you are seeking, your application won’t typically be taken into consideration unless it is made for a relevantly unrelated field.
Typically, applicants with the same research project who have applied more than twice before should not reapply. Concerning the Graduate Teaching Assistant Position

Because they are both registered postgraduate researchers (PGRs) and perform teaching and teaching support activities, graduate teaching assistants have a special standing inside the university.

PGRs are anticipated to:

• Complete a program of workshops for researcher growth.
• Engage in customized ongoing researcher development.
• Finish a program of teacher preparation for higher education.
• Complete a Ph.D. research program under the supervision of a team of appointed supervisors.
• Follow the department head’s instructions when teaching for up to six hours each week.
• Spend up to nine hours every week on preparation and marking.
• Participate in development activities, such as publication and presenting at conferences, to improve the research culture of their department and the University as a whole.

Each GTA studentship comprises a “package” with a total value of over £34,000 for international applicants and slightly under £26,000 for UK-based applicants each year. This comprises:

• Total compensation of £17,668 annually, which is in line with the UKRI rate. This is divided between a salary of £12,168 per year and a tax-free allowance of $5,500 per year to help with housing expenses.
• Full waiver of research degree tuition fees, which would otherwise cost UK PGRs £4,700 annually and international PGRs $14,000 annually.
• Full waiver of the £1740 tuition fee for the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education
