Canada Visa Without LMIA | Move to Canada Without a Job Offer
The government of Canada has released some news, and this news is an update on a strategy that was used during the covid era. This is about the situation of people who are in Canada on tourist visas.
People have always wondered if they could go to Canada on a vacation visa and still apply for a job there. There were government laws in Canada that supported this, but the way it worked was that if you were a tourist and got a job while you were there, you would have to leave Canada before you could apply for a work permit.
But the law has actually been changed by the government.
2-year extension to apply for work permits in Canada.
With a temporary policy that has been extended by 2 years, people can still apply for work permits in Canada.
Visitors who get a legal job offer in Canada can apply for a work permit without leaving the country. Visitors who apply under this policy and have had a work permit in the past 12 months can get temporary work permits to work for their new company.
This COVID-19-era state policy is permanent until February 28, 2025. This temporary regulation allows Canadian enterprises with labor shortages to hire foreigners.
Before this temporary policy change, most Canadian workers needed a work visa before arriving. If their work permit was approved while they were in Canada, they would have to leave the country. This policy makes leaving Canada unnecessary.
Criteria for eligibility
Applicants who want to take advantage of this temporary public policy must meet the following criteria.
- Have a valid visitor status in Canada on the day they apply.
- Have a job offer that is backed by a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment.
- Apply for an employer-specific work permit no later than February 28, 2025.
- Meet all the other standard conditions for being allowed in
Applicants who have visitor status but have had a valid work permit in the last 12 months can follow special guidelines to get a temporary permit to work so they can start working for their new employer before their work permit application is finalized.
