Canada Extends Work Permits of Some Temporary Workers | Canada Immigration 2024

Certain temporary workers are granted work permits by Canada. The new work permit extension public policy in Manitoba, which was recently announced by Immigration Minister Mark Miller, is a major step forward in resolving the issues temporary workers in the province confront. This proactive strategy demonstrates Manitoba’s dedication to assisting its workforce and providing qualified people with pathways to permanent residency.

Immigration Minister Mark Miller has granted Manitoba a new work permit extension public policy in an audacious effort to deal with temporary residents’ expiring or expired work authorizations. With the implementation of this new policy, 6,700 qualified temporary workers in the province whose work authorizations expire in 2024 will be granted open work permits.

According to Minister Miller, the province of Manitoba contacted his department to request an extension of the work permit for temporary residents who are employed there and whose permits expire in 2024. To meet its labor demands, Manitoba depends on these temporary residents with work permits.

Mark announced the introduction of a new public policy that will grant open work permits for qualified temporary workers in the Manitoba PNP Expression of Interest pool. Additionally, he stated that they hoped that within the next two years, these individuals would receive an official nomination from Manitoba and become permanent citizens.

“We can anticipate that an open work permit could be issued for two years, that is until 2026,” according to Minister Miller’s statement. The Manitoba PNP just held a massive invitation-only round for the International Education Stream on May 2.

When will the new policy for work permit extensions be launched?

Officials will shortly share a statement of intent detailing the details of the public policy as well as additional requirements and qualifying criteria to support this facilitative step, according to the formal letter that Minister Miller wrote to the Immigration Minister of Manitoba. The letter will contain terms, such as a timeline for performance reports.

In addition, the minister stated, “I think that, given the circumstances, now will be a good time to review and renew the Canada-Michigan immigration agreement and to move forward with the talks regarding how Manitoba will use its PNP to move more temporary residents to permanent residency.”

By enabling prospective effective nominees to work in Manitoba while their PNP applications are being processed over an extended period, Canada hopes to directly and favorably impact these individuals through the deployment of this one-time facilitation measure. As these temporary residents become permanent residents, this program will increase the pool of skilled labor in Manitoba. Contribute to the province’s work permit expiration efforts

In addition to obtaining a temporary policy from the Minister of Immigration, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has lately extended its assistance to temporary residents whose work permits have expired or are about to expire. Effective April 26, Manitoba is also evaluating MPNP applications submitted by individuals with upcoming expiring work permits and Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP).

Priority

MPNP applicants whose work authorizations have expired or will expire in the next 45 days must notify the MPNP by completing the skilled worker web form to guarantee priority processing.

What about other provinces?

In the interim, as they await the approval of their applications to become permanent residents, thousands of vital temporary workers in Manitoba will be supported by this initiative, which addresses broader concerns about the necessity of a cohesive immigration plan across Canada. Requests for similar moves in other provinces have been generated by discussions of the challenges faced by international students on post-graduate work permits with expired or soon-to-expire work permits.

As the nation watches this development, the question that still has to be answered is whether other provinces will offer work permits to temporary residents who labor inside their borders. On May 10, the immigration minister will also host the annual meeting of all province and territory immigration ministers.

The province of Manitoba’s move to provide open work permits to temporary employees is a step in the right direction for improving labor stability and assisting people in their quest for permanent residence. This policy acts as a model for other provinces to take into consideration comparable measures that prioritize the integration and well-being of temporary residents within their communities, while conversations about it continue at the national level.
