This program demonstrates Canada’s dedication to drawing in qualified workers and creating an atmosphere that is welcoming to foreign talent.

Canada Open Work Permit for US Visa Holders

This week, additional H-1B open work visa applications will be processed, according to Canadian immigration officials. Applications are chosen using a temporary process that was unveiled in July of last year. Under this measure, new applications will not be chosen by the IRCC. This short-term policy is Canada’s first immigration tech talent plan, aimed at temporary workers in the US IT industry.

Tech Talent Strategy

On July 16 of last year, Canada unveiled its immigration Tech Talent policy. The goal of this plan was to hire skilled Americans to fill positions in Canada. Canada seeks to establish itself as a global leader in numerous developing technologies by attracting immigrants. For foreign nationals with H-1B visas working in the US, this approach offers open work permits.

Additionally, this tactic offers alternatives for work permits and study permits to workers’ families. We are enthusiastic about the progressive goals we have set in immigration because they are strategic rather than just numerical, according to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser. In a single day, 10,000 applications were received by the IRCC.

New Temporary Public Policy

The processing fees for minor children of H-1B holders who have applied for Canada open work permits under the H-1B work permits measure are eliminated by the new Temporary Public Policy, which was announced on March 18. According to IRCC, the new regulation will assist H1 candidates who were unable to apply for a study permit for their underage children.

The IRCC will handle the following applications as per the new public policy:

  • On July 17th of last year, a limited number of applications were received.
  • Applications that their family members submitted via the paid Representatives portal will be processed on July 17.
  • Applications for work permits from accompanied family members
  • Relatives of those applying for a work permit who will apply within the next 12 months or who have previously applied

Canada is committed to embracing global talent and promoting innovation, as seen by its proactive approach to processing extra H-1B open work permit applications. Canada confirms its position as a welcome destination for qualified people seeking opportunities and contributing to the country’s diverse and dynamic Workforce by addressing rising demand and streamlining procedures.

In addition to being advantageous to applicants, this program supports Canada’s larger objectives of economic expansion and global cooperation.
