Canada NEW Changes in Permanent Residency Rules for Applicants

Canada changes the rules for some candidates for PR. In this post, we’ll examine the new modifications made to Canada’s requirements for some applicants for permanent residency (PR). These big changes may have an impact on people hoping to move to Canada.

Many people will be relieved to learn that Canada has eliminated the requirement for express-entry PR candidates to submit the results of a medical examination. Instead, candidates are encouraged to hold off on scheduling a medical checkup until further instructions. Once notified, applicants will have 30 days to complete the medical examination

You might not need to submit another email if you are presently residing in Canada and have already completed one as part of a prior application, such as one to work or study.

According to the IRCC, if you completed an email within five years of submitting your new application, you may be excluded from completing another email if you include the email number or the unique medical identifying number from your prior exam in your current application. So, if you fulfill each of these requirements

  • First and foremost, you have applied or are applying for temporary or permanent residency
  • Second, you are already residing in Canada
  • Also, you finished your prior email within the last five years.
  • Lastly, your earlier email said there was little to no risk to public health or safety.

After you submit your application, IRCC will email you details on how to schedule your medical exam if your old findings cannot be used. This change intends to streamline the application process and guarantee that medical exams are completed on time.

Conditions for PR Application Denial

Your application for permanent residency won’t be approved by IRCC if your health;

  • Foremost, poses a threat to the health or safety of Canadians
  • Also, would result in an excessive demand for Canada’s social or health services

A panel doctor’s immigration medical examination (IME) is necessary for permanent residency. Even if they are not moving with you, members of your family must still get a medical examination.

Types of Immigration Medical Exams (IME)

There are two types of immigration medical exams

  • Standard medical exam
  • Streamlined medical exam

When there is an emergency operational situation, such as a humanitarian catastrophe or other unusual circumstance, the IRCC may request a shortened medical examination.

Who may perform the tests?

You must visit a physician on the IRCC’s panel of physicians list. The medical exam cannot be performed by your doctor. The final decision on your medical examination is not made by the panel doctor.

Canada Immigration Plan 2024

According to Fraser, while Canada works to define its future, it won’t rule out modifying immigration targets to meet housing concerns, alone item. It is nonetheless evident that the subject of how immigration and housing interact is crucial and needs careful thinking. We’ve explored the angles and options surrounding this problem, illustrating the difficult juggling act that politicians must pull off.

Keep checking back for additional information on how immigration is changing in Canada and how that affects the cost of housing.

Sean Fraser’s take on Canada Housing Challenge

Sean Fraser, Canada’s minister of housing, has emphasized the government’s openness to modify its immigration goals in response to the country’s continuing housing issues. Fraser emphasized the need for improved coordination between immigration policy and the absorptive capacity of Canadian communities, which includes housing, health care, and infrastructure while admitting the significance of maintaining ambitious immigration targets.

Fraser voiced his concerns about the present unchecked demand for temporary immigration programs during an interview on CTV’s Question Period. Before making any modifications to these programs, he underlined the need for consultation with other levels of government, particularly about institutions in charge of admitting international students, which is a provincial prerogative.

Fraser also emphasized that addressing the housing situation should take a broader view than only immigration. Fraser reminded Canadians that immigration is one of the country’s greatest assets in the global economy and that it is essential to attracting qualified workers, addressing labor shortages, and fostering economic expansion.

However, the minister acknowledged the issues brought up by policy experts, opposition parties, and academics regarding the effects of Canada’s rapid immigration surge.

Strategy on Housing Affordability

Fraser, who was Canada’s federal immigration minister at the time, presented the nation’s aspirational immigration goals in November 2022, setting a goal to welcome 465,000 permanent residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025. By solving labor shortages and luring qualified workers to vital industries including healthcare, skilled crafts, manufacturing, and technology, this strategy aims to increase Canada’s economic success.

However, detractors contend that this tactic worsens the housing situation. If present immigration patterns continue, according to TD economists, Canada’s housing needs could increase by 500,000 units in just two years. To meet housing affordability goals, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation also predicted that an extra 3.5 million homes will be required by 2030.

Setting a limit on the number of foreign students permitted to study in Canada remains one suggested solution to the issues of housing affordability and rental availability.

Cost of Living

With record-high interest rates driving up mortgage payments, a lack of available inventory, and persistent inflation rates, housing prices in Canada are still at an all-time high. Liberals are under fire, and Canadians are feeling the pain.

According to national polls, Pierre Poliev’s conservatives are up to 14 points ahead of the Liberals, and this exclusive Nanos Research survey for our program focuses on the specific question of which candidate Canadians believe will be able to resolve the housing situation.

Both sides are trying to squeeze the Liberals. The data indicates that when it comes to handling the soaring expense of housing, the Tories and the NDP are far and away the most dependable federal parties.

How the Liberals address the issue as Parliament Resumes

This is the most recent response of Sean Frazier, the Minister of Housing in an interview

“Right now, we’re focused on partnering with institutions to identify the best path forward. My preference is to continue to welcome significant numbers of international students because the program is good for Canada both in the short term and the long term, when you create a pipeline of potential new citizens but we have to make sure that we’re partnering with provincial governments and institutions to ensure that students are supported when they’re here and the communities have the housing capacity to absorb them”

First and foremost, our focus will concentrate on partnering with institutions to determine the best course of action. However, we won’t rule out any options to address some of the housing challenges. Thus, in communities that host post-secondary education institutions.

Sean Fraser ignited an intelligent debate by suggesting that immigration targets might shift to address the country’s housing issues.
