British Council Women in STEM Scholarships

Do you have a degree in a STEM field and are passionate about it? You could get a scholarship to get a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math at a top university in the UK.

Apply for an Early Academic Fellowship scholarship if you earned a STEM Doctorate within three years.

The British Council’s Women in STEM Scholarships program is now in its third year. It works with 19 UK universities to help women from Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, South Asia, East Asia, the Western Balkans, and Central Asia.

We are looking for women with a background in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) who can show they need financial help and want to encourage younger women to go into STEM fields.

Why have a program for scholarships?

This scholarship program aims to give girls and women more chances to work in STEM fields. According to the UN Scientific, Educational, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), less than 30% of researchers around the world are women, and only 30% of female college students choose STEM-related majors. However, this number has been slowly rising and is now at 35%. (Anon, 2022).

From 2017 to 2018, a breakdown by subject showed that there were very few women studying STEM subjects. 19% of women study Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology, while 81% of men do. At 39% and 37%, physical sciences, math, and statistics are stronger than their opposites, which have scores of 61 and 63%.
