Changes in Sponsorship Visa Details
The subclass 186 visa, commonly referred to as the Employer Nomination Scheme visa, is now a category of permanent residency requiring sponsorship from an employer recommending the applicant. To be eligible for either the Transition or Direct Stream of the 186 visas, you must work in one of the occupations listed.
A minimum total score of 6 in English language skills on the IELTS or an equivalent test is required. Candidates must also be no older than 45 at the time of application for the Direct Entry Stream and no older than 50 for the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
The eligibility requirements for the Australian Category 186 Employer Nomination Visa haven’t changed since the Liberals came into power more than 5 years ago.
Since that time, only sponsored employees who can nominate positions on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List, or MLTSSL, have access to the 186 Employer Nomination visa. Candidates can only qualify for the temporary residence transition stream after working continuously for the sponsoring company for at least three years.
This will change by the end of the fiscal year 2022/23, as announced in a formal media announcement. Under the newly established labor administration, which will put things back to how they were five years ago, every Australian resident who has a category 482 sponsorship visa will be eligible to seek permanent residence.
They may do this under the Employer Nomination Scheme, subclass 186 visa, regardless of whether their occupation appears on the Short-Term Skill Occupations List (STSOL) or the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Even better, a sponsorship visa holder will need fewer working years to meet the requirements for Australian permanent residency.
Instead of working for the same company for three years, holders of sponsorship visas qualify after 2 years of service.
What are the Requirements?
- To nominate the sponsored employee for a permanent visa, the employer must first give their agreement.
- Secondly, the employer’s operation must meet the criteria for nomination.
- Third, the candidate for a visa must adhere to moral, morality, physical, and English language requirements.
The minimum yearly salary package for sponsored visas will increase as of July 1, 2023. The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold, or TSMIT, will increase from 53,900 to 70,000 annually. Even though this changed not for the past ten years, the government believes that this remains its projected development.
The revised compensation structure will only be available to applications received on or after July 1, 2023. Additionally, the government will provide an additional $630 million to the Australian Border Force and the Department of Home Affairs.
