Apply for 2024 World Bank Treasury Summer Internship

As a young and intelligent college student, are you seeking a place to complete an internship program? Do you want to acquire the knowledge and abilities required for a profitable and interesting career in the financial sector? apply for the Summer 2024 World Bank Treasury Internship.

The World Bank Treasury is one of the few places where employment opportunities are available that allow one to work at the intersection of finance, innovation, and international development. The Summer Internship is the only program offered by the World Bank that is intended solely and exclusively for college students.

Details for a World Bank Treasury internship

  • Host: The World Bank
  • Program Type: Internships for undergraduate students
  • Location of the program: Washington, D.C.
  • Program Duration: 12-week program duration
  • Minimum requirements: undergraduate students
  • Eligible Nationalities: There is no restriction on the nationalities that can run for office.

The goal of the Treasury Summer Internship Program is to provide participants with the knowledge and abilities necessary for a successful and enjoyable career in the financial sector. This is accomplished through the delivery of a junior professional training course.

The Program aims to recruit outstanding undergraduate students who have shown a commitment to a career in finance to aid the World Bank’s development mission.

The internship lays the groundwork for the intern, once they have finished their degree program, to join one of the Treasury teams as a Junior Analyst, which is a role that lasts for two years. It is common practice for students to be in the third to the final year of a four-year college degree program when they participate in an internship.

Eligibility Requirements

The following essential qualifications must be met by applicants to be selected for a World Bank internship:

  • Must have a demonstrated interest in finance, business, economics, or a related discipline and be enrolled in the second to last year of a program that is equivalent to a four-year college degree.
  • You need to be ready to earn your college degree between January and September 2025.
  • The student must maintain a solid GPA at their institution or university.
  • The candidate must be available full-time for the whole internship.
  • Cannot have an internship or concomitant work contract.

The internship

The Department of the Treasury will host full-time summer interns in Washington, DC, beginning on May 28, 2024, and continuing through August 5, 2024. Before beginning their first of three rotations with a different Treasury team each lasting three weeks, interns participate in a one-of-a-kind orientation program during the first week.

During the course of the summer, interns participate in weekly meetings with the director of the program. Additionally, they go to a speaker series on career perspectives, where they hear from a variety of Treasury officers, managers, and directors. Interns have access to the approximately 300-person Treasury, and they can schedule appointments with the Vice President and treasurer if they so choose.

The internship comes to a close with a presentation of the intern’s capstone project to the management team, and each rotation ends with the intern giving a presentation to the team to which they have been assigned.

For a total of 400 hours, interns are paid between $20.40 (net for non-US citizens) and $24.60 (gross for US citizens) per hour. Interns are hired on a short-term temporary contract.

Each intern must live in Washington, DC from May 28 to August 5. Interns must work at least 40 hours per week, even though HR policies can change. World Bank interns receive laptops at the start of their internship.

If it turns out to be necessary, the World Bank foots the bill for the necessary visa for the intern, allowing them to work in the United States.
