Alberta Suspends PR Pathway – AAIP | Canada Immigration

Alberta has stopped accepting applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream. A major milestone was achieved in the most recent Express Entry draw when several candidates were invited to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada. Like the ones before it, this draw highlights how dynamic and competitive Canada’s immigration system is.

Knowing who was awarded these ITAs provides insight into the characteristics and backgrounds of people who were thought to be a good fit for Canada’s vibrant economy and diversified society.

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

Applications for the Alberta Opportunity stream are no longer being processed by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) as of February 15 and will remain so until further notice. The province will be able to solve its existing inventory and concentrate its limited immigration nominations on pressing issues including addressing labor shortages in high-demand industries like technology, construction, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality, according to the AAIP.

The Province said it will be taking steps to manage future application volumes against program goals and to maintain fair service standards throughout its streams. The Province will continue to evaluate any Alberta opportunity stream applications filed before February 15.

The AAIP’s Alberta opportunity stream is designed for temporary foreign workers who are employed full-time in the province with a valid Canadian work visa and who have received an offer of employment from an Albertan firm. Holders of post-graduation employment permits might also be qualified.

Province Launches New PNP Stream for Tourism and Hospitality

The AIPP is launching a new stream on March 1st, which is intended for those who have satisfied the requirements to permanently establish themselves in Alberta and who have been employed by a tourism or hospitality company for at least six months. Additionally, applicants must possess a legitimate full-time, non-seasonal employment offer from a recognized company in the relevant sector.

According to a recent announcement from the Alberta government, the stream will assist in addressing shortages in the industry and assisting companies across the province—including those in remote areas—in keeping employees in the workforce.

As part of previous priority processing measures, the Province claims to only accept a restricted amount of applications for the stream and to accelerate their processing. On March 1, more information is anticipated to be made public.

One of the most well-liked tourist spots in Canada is Alberta. The province government reports that 32 million visitors came to the province in 2022, bringing in $10.7 billion in revenue.

Immigrating to Alberta

The province of Alberta employs the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AIPP), a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), to choose economic immigration candidates who have the best chance of establishing themselves economically in the province.

Similar to other PNPs, several streams choose applicants based on certain qualities that are in demand. For instance, the province offers PNP streams aimed at highly qualified individuals in particular fields like agriculture or healthcare. Additionally, it offers PNP streams for businesses and individuals who labor in the province’s rural districts.

Provinces are allotted a certain amount of nominations through the PNP, which they can submit at any time of the year. Alberta nominated 9,750 candidates for the AIPP in 2023. Although the Province claims it has not yet verified the number of nominations allotted for 2024, the federal immigration levels plan 2024–2026 states that by the end of this year, Canada will have welcomed 110,000 newcomers through the PNP.
