Background

JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), a leader in global health, is currently recruiting for a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Communications Officer for the recently extended USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum Project in Ghana.

The overall goal of the project is to improve the capacity of the Government of Ghana (GOG) and its partners to provide quality and comprehensive HIV prevention and treatment services for key populations and people living with HIV/AIDS using a coordinated and sustainable approach.

The project activities are implemented in Ghana’s Western, Western North and Ahafo Regions. The Social and Behavior Change Communications Officer is a full-time position that will be based in Takoradi, Ghana, and reports to the Communications Advisor.

Job Summary

The Social and Behavior Change Communications Officer  will support two key areas: 1) external/corporate communications to promote project successes; and 2) development, implementation, and monitoring of SBC strategies, approaches, tools and materials to improve uptake of quality HIV services.

The officer will support the project team to use evidence to design interventions that seek to facilitate change in behaviors and the social norms and environmental determinants that drive them.  . S/he will support the development of behavior change programming in partnership with beneficiaries so that strategies target their real motivators for adopting practices, and promote feasible changes..

S/he will play a key role in making information accessible  to project beneficiaries using technology to support  campaigns,including a two-way SMS, pre-recorded multiple language voice message transmission, and mobile applications through a toll-free HelpLine system. The Communications Program Officer will ensure regular analysis and reporting of data generated by the system and identify program areas needing corrective interventions.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Firstly, Ensure that all SBC activities support the achievement of project targets in providing quality and comprehensive HIV services with a sustainable approach
  • Secondly, Provide technical assistance in the development, testing, implementation, and monitoring of SBC strategies,  approaches, tools, materials
  • Thirdly, S/he will ensure  the timely implementation of all SBC related activities and capture lessons learned
  • Moreover, Support the Communications Advisor to amplify the project’s efforts and impacts on behavior change across multiple channels (conferences, blogs, social media, publications, etc).
  • Additionally, Draft and edit reports, communication products (success stories, flyers, posters, leaflets, booklets, etc.), and other documents as required.
  • Then, Support the Communications Advisor in all aspects of the project branding and effective communications of the project to partners and the general public.
  • Also, Support media engagements and foster strategic alliance with key media platforms
  • More so, Support the management and promotion of the project’s Helpline platform (Healthy Living Platform –HLP) – including daily monitoring of the platform and mapping out support required by counselors and subscribers and coordinating prompt feedback.
  • Besides that, Undertake day-to-day running of digital engagement channels across, web, mobile applications, and social media
  • Thereafter, Coordinate the development of beneficiary-friendly content (text and audio) for all digital engagement channels
  • Afterwards, Develop and lead the implementation of digital behavior change campaigns by ensuring timely initiation and termination
  • Finally, Support other communication functions of the Care Continuum project and other JSI projects in Ghana as will be directed.

Required Skills or Experience

  • A degree from a recognized institution/university/college or equivalent in Health Communication or Health Promotion,  Behavioral Sciences, Population Studies, Public Health, or a similar field;
  • At least 3-6 years of work experience in health or HIV related project/program implementation, material/content development, and good knowledge of online communication, preferably in HIV or any public health intervention.
  • Experience in developing and pretesting SBC materials
  • Experience in implementing SBC interventions, preferably in HIV
  • Experience working with an international organization, ideally USAID funded
  • Familiarity with USAID branding and marking standards is preferable.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite) is preferable.
  • Creative skill and ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize work
  • Passion for digital communication and online engagement
  • Experience working with the latest advances in the effective use of digital and social media for effective corporate and program communication
  • Proven skills in MS Microsoft Office, Google Docs, search engine optimization, and other digital tools
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English;
  • Demonstrated ability to build, manage and work in a team and work under pressure
  • Good organization and electronic file management skills; and
  • Good training and facilitation skills.
