General Manager Needed For the TECAS Mission

The mission of TECAS (Training Extension for Conservation Agriculture in the Savannahs) is to enable intensified cropping systems according to the principles of conservation agriculture (CA).

At present, TECAS has three main foci: agronomic support to and training of farmers and field advisors, tractor service provision with CA implements and multiplication of cover crops.

The young social enterprise was set up and is currently still supported by the two development projects, co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany: GIZ-AgriBiz/MOAP North West and GIZ-REACH, with the aim of becoming an independent and sustainable entity.

The TECAS general manager is a long-term position beginning in January 2023 and based in Wa, where TECAS is housed. The manager will oversee all staff, budget and operations. Coordinating the tractor service provision with CA implements will be a key part of the job, as well as setting up CA demonstrations for farmers to practically experience the benefits of the approach.

Finally, the manager will be responsible for the development of TECAS as a young organisation, including legal matters and membership issues.

Responsibilities

The TECAS General Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Firstly, Leading the company with three technical staff, one administrator and four tractor operators
  • Secondly, Oversee legal and administrative organisational development of the company, liaison with the Board of Directors
  • Thirdly, Ensure adherence to the Business Plan of TECAS
  • Moreover, Plan and coordinate efficient operation of four tractors with CA implements
  • Additionally, Post-season evaluating and planning of next season
  • Then, Develope and regular review annual work plans and budgets Organise of Trainings and Field Days
  • Also, Develope, test and analyse new mechanisation options and cropping systems
  • Finally, Correspond with and report to donors

Qualification and Skills Required

The ideal candidate will therefore, have skills in conservation agriculture, leadership, business and organisational development and economics. Essential competences and qualifications required are:

  • Relevant education: bachelor’s degree or higher (e.g. agriculture, business entrepreneurship, economics)
  • Practical experience in conservation agriculture
  • Ability of responsible management and social skills in leading staff Enthusiasm for building up a new company according to business principles
  • Presentation, training and group facilitating skills
  • A good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Professional writing skills in English
  • Ability to communicate in Waale, Dagare or Sissala
  • Master’s degree

The pay range for this position is 66,000 GHC per annum gross plus performance bonus. The salary can be increased in case the profit generated allows for it. Women are highly encouraged to apply.
