HerStart: Future Innovation Initiative
HerStart is a YCI project that promotes gender equality, innovation, and economic empowerment worldwide. Via the HerStart: Innovate the Future initiative, YCI provides engaging entrepreneurship and leadership training, mentorship, and initial funding for young women to create businesses that positively influence their communities in Ghana, Tanzania, and Uganda. We collaborate with local partners in every country to co-design and co-implement HerStart, utilizing their distinct expertise and enhancing their organizational learning. We utilize the energy and talents of Canadian volunteers to increase our impact, while also boosting their personal and professional growth. Local supportive ecosystems are initiated to enhance collaboration, break down silos, and eliminate gender barriers beyond HerStart.
Job Overview
The Project Officer position, reporting to the Country Manager in Ghana, is vital for the execution of YCI HerStart’s training initiatives in Tamale. Main duties involve assisting with training logistics alongside YCI staff and partners, gathering training data, coordinating aid for young women entrepreneurs benefiting from the HerStart Catalyst Fund, and involving Canadian volunteers to enhance project results. YCI is looking for a well-organized person with excellent communication abilities and digital proficiency to fill this 3-month role.
Responsibilities
- Training and Entrepreneurship Project Assistance: Facilitate coordination of training logistics and participant engagement; Organize activities for entrepreneurs benefitting from the Catalyst Fund, including coaching, mentorship, and fund application formulation; Ensure accurate maintenance of training attendance documentation.
- Volunteer Involvement: Assist with the orientation of Canadian volunteers coming to Ghana; Involve skills-oriented Canadian volunteers and utilize their knowledge in the planning and execution of project activities.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Assistance: Aid in continuous data collection requirements in Ghana by training participants, which includes performing follow-up surveys with program alumni.
Required Skills or Experience
- You are an initiated professional with over 3 years of experience in supporting training projects, preferably in the entrepreneurship and livelihood development field.
- You have a gift for building connections with youth;
- You are dedicated to supporting the livelihoods of women and youth, motivated by the possibilities of innovation and entrepreneurship.
- You excel as a team player and engage respectfully and inclusively with a variety of stakeholders, including volunteers from Canada.
- You show a comprehensive grasp of the concepts of gender equality.
- You are skilled in utilizing digital tools like Microsoft Outlook.
- You possess strong communication skills and have outstanding proficiency in both written and spoken English, and
- You are a citizen or a permanent resident of Ghana.
