2024 Australia Government Research Scholarship (Fully-funded)

Applications are currently being accepted for the Australian Government Research Scholarship for the 2024 academic year. Students who are currently enrolled in approved HDR (Higher Degree by Research) programs, whether they are studying in their home country or abroad, are eligible to submit an application for these scholarships, which are referred to as RTP scholarships.

Description of the scholarship:

Through the AGRTP International Scholarship, undergraduate and graduate students from countries all over the world are given the opportunity to further their education by pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Australia. The funding for the scholarship has been allocated in its entirety for the 2023–2024 academic year.

Scholarships are available through the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) in a range of subject areas and majors, enabling students to enroll in postgraduate degree programs. The scholarship covers all study-related costs, regardless of the field of study—engineering, computer science, math, health, arts, professions, or sciences.

The RTP program has more than 40 major Australian universities as participants. These colleges are well-known throughout the world for their top-notch leadership and efficient teaching techniques. They are also renowned for their contributions to research, which makes them the perfect places to pursue higher education.

Benefits of the scholarship

Scholarships with full funding are available through the Australian Government Research Scholarship 2023–24 program for students from other countries who wish to study in Australia. The scholarships will cover a variety of costs, including the following ones:

  • Stipend: For up to two years for a Research Master’s degree and up to three years for a Research Doctoral degree, recipients will receive an annual living allowance of AUD $29,863 (tax-free, 2023 value).
  • Whole Tuition Fee Coverage: For up to 2 years for Master’s degrees and up to 4 years for Ph.D. degrees, the scholarships will pay the whole tuition costs.
  • Medical Funds: Recipients are given paid time off for illness.
  • Overseas Student Health Cover: By including coverage for Overseas Student Health Cover, the scholarships guarantee that students will have access to essential medical care.
  • Travel Allowance: A travel allowance of $1000 is given to cover flight costs for students traveling to and from Adelaide from their home countries.

Candidates who are working toward a doctorate or a research master’s degree will be eligible for financial assistance to cover the costs associated with their thesis, including editing, printing, and binding. The cost is AUD$ 420 for candidates pursuing a master’s by research and AUD$ 840 for candidates pursuing a doctoral degree.

Eligibility Requirements

Australia Government RTP Program Overview

The Research Training Program (RTP) provides block grants, on a calendar year basis, to higher education providers (HEPs) to support both domestic and overseas students undertaking research doctorate and research masters degrees, known as higher degrees by research (HDRs).

The objectives of the RTP scheme are to:

  • provide flexible funding arrangements to support the training of domestic students and overseas students undertaking HDRs at Australian HEPs
  • deliver graduates with the skills required to build careers in academia and other sectors of the labour market
  • support collaboration between the HEPs industry, and other research end-users
  • support overseas students undertaking HDR studies at Australian HEPs.

Research masters students – period of support

Both domestic and international students who are enrolled in an approved HDR degree at an Australian HEP are eligible for RTP Scholarships. For a research master’s degree, RTP Scholarships are offered for a maximum of two years.
