2023-2024 Destination Australia Scholarships Application

The Destination Australia Scholarships is a well-organized program that gives money to tertiary education providers who are qualified to grant scholarships to local and foreign students to study and live in regional Australia. For the 2023–2024 entrants, applications are now being accepted through qualified providers.

The $93.7 million Destination Australia Program aims to promote and improve regional Australian higher education institutions, attract and support domestic and foreign students to study in regional Australia and provide students with a top-notch educational experience.

Scholarships for domestic and foreign students to study and live in regional Australia are offered by approved tertiary education providers with funding from Destination Australia.

The Initiative

Scholarships for domestic and foreign students to study and live in regional Australia are offered by approved tertiary education providers with funding from Destination Australia.

The Australia Destination Program Aim:

  • Supports regional and distant institutions of higher learning in Australia by encouraging initiatives that advance development and sustainability.
  • Provides Australian and international students with the chance to pursue top-notch education, training, and research while also getting a taste of living in regional and remote Australia.
  • Assures that regions benefit from the social, cultural, and economic contributions made by international students.
  • Prioritizes domestic and international students enrolled in programs that are in line with the National Skills Priority List to help address areas of skill shortage.
  • Offers scholarships to Australian citizens who belong to underrepresented groups in order to help them enroll in university programs in outlying areas.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure, the Destination Australia Program defines a regional site as any area outside of Australia’s major cities.

Information for providers of tertiary education who are eligible

The Community Grants Hub is now accepting award applications for the Destination Australia Program’s academic year 2024.

For roughly 551 domestic and international students starting their studies in 2024, the program’s 2024 round will provide scholarship money of up to $15,000 per student, per year.

The deadline for applications is 9:00 p.m. on August 10, 2023. Please note that students who desire to apply for a scholarship in 2024 must not use this application process; it is only for approved tertiary education providers.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, a webinar for qualified tertiary education providers took place. General program information and instructions for applying for the grant opportunity were offered during the webinar. Please be aware that the webinar’s information is not geared toward students who want to submit a scholarship application.

Program for Destination to Australia 2023

For the 2023 edition of the program, up to 480 local and international students who would be starting their studies that year could get scholarships of up to $15,000 per student, per year.

How do qualified students submit a scholarship application?

Direct scholarship applications from students are made to reputable educational institutions.

For the term of their scholarship, students must satisfy the following requirements to be eligible for a Destination Australia scholarship:

  • begin a new full-time program of study with a recognized provider in the 2023 academic year.
  • The course has a period of one to four years and is part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, which ranges from Certificate IV to Ph.D.
  • in accordance with the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure, be a resident of a regional area at the start of the study and throughout the study period.

For a student from another country:

  • keep their student visa current throughout the scholarship period.
  • accept a full-time study program offer that has been registered on CRICOS.

The rural University Study Hubs initiative (formerly known as the Regional University Centres program) employs a cutting-edge strategy to expand rural and distant students’ access to higher education.

A regional university study hub is a place where students from remote areas can take tertiary courses from any Australian institution that are offered locally and remotely. Hubs offer:

Infrastructure, including:

    • Study spaces
    • Break out areas
    • Video conferencing
    • Computer facilities
    • High-speed internet access

In all the states and the Northern Territory, there are 34 Regional University Study Hubs.
