USCIS Announces Fastest Reduction in Green Card Backlogs | US Immigration 2024

American senators recently pushed for the elimination of the 7% country cap on the issuance of green cards to foreign guest workers under specific categories at a summit. Due to this approach, Indian immigrants’ waiting periods for Green Cards have occasionally exceeded 70 years.

Lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties joined together at the recent Tech Immigration Summit in the US capital to emphasize the urgent need to address the Green Card backlog, which is having a significant negative impact on Indian professionals, as well as issues about the H-1B Visa.

Officially referred to as a permanent resident card, the green card permits individuals to dwell and work in the United States for an indefinite period. Lawmakers argued during the summit, which was organized by the Foundation for India and the Indian Diaspora, for the elimination of the 7% national cap on the number of green cards that can be granted to foreign guest workers in specific categories.

In the absence of this modification, the waiting period for Indian immigrants may exceed 20 years, and in certain situations, it may even surpass 70 years.

News organization PTI stated “The significance of a reasonable immigration policy was underlined by Congressman Rana, an Indian-American, and co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus. He went on to say that it is absurd to subsidize someone’s college education or provide them with stem cells, then advise them to return to their home country while the education is being paid for by American taxpayers. Rather than outsourcing those jobs, I’d prefer to stay here and create them.

Lawmakers Push for Immigration Reforms

Congressman Eric Swalwell highlighted the wider implications of resolving immigration-related issues, connecting them to problems in economic growth, environmental sustainability, and healthcare.

American immigration law is flawed, according to Congressman Shri Tanar, an Indian-American. According to the news organization PTI, our businesses and we both require legal immigration to be strengthened. Whenever I meet CEOs of businesses, they always emphasize to me how crucial it is to have access to a competent labor pool.

Because they are abusing our flawed immigration system, so many people are leaving for Canada and Australia these days. The skilled labor force must be able to remain in the United States. That will boost her GDP, support the expansion of our companies, and add to the number of jobs in the United States.

Rajer Krishna Murthy and Congressman Rich McCormack demanded that the pertinent US laws be passed. Congressman Alan made the important point that immigrants with technology skills are often the most successful business owners in large sectors. He stressed that the 7% national quota makes things difficult for them, especially for those arriving from India, and that this has resulted in a significant backlog in the processing of green cards.
