Concerning the University of Alabama
The University of Alabama is a senior, comprehensive doctorate-level university and the oldest public university in the state of Alabama. The university was founded under a clause in the constitution with legal authority and duties. Its goal is to improve the social and intellectual standing of the state’s citizens by offering top-notch service, research, and teaching initiatives.
In 1818, the federal government gave the Alabama Territory permission to set aside a township for the construction of a “seminary of learning.” On March 2, 1819, President Monroe signed the Statehood Enabling Act. On December 14, 1819, Alabama was formally admitted to the Union, and a second township was added to the grant. The seminary was formally founded on December 18, 1820, and given the name “The University of the State of Alabama.” In 1827, it was decided to relocate to Tuscaloosa, the state capital at the time.
The University of Alabama started offering engineering courses in 1838, making it the first in the state. It was among the first five in the country to accomplish this, and it is also among the select few that have kept its accreditation consistent since the start of national accreditation in 1936.
The University of Alabama, which is currently home to approximately 38,000 diverse students, teachers, and staff members across 12 colleges and schools under the direction of deans and President Stuart R. Bell, is thriving and drawing more and more attention from all over the country and the world every year. Through its 12 colleges and institutions, UA provides 70 undergraduate programs.

We’ve given a lot of attention to studying and finding out. Every year, people from all over the world give us hundreds of millions of dollars to help with our studies. And if you’re a first-year student, we’ll be eager to put you right into the game. We’ve already said that it’s important here.
Innovation + Starting a business
We care a lot about business. In particular, business. Our Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and our UAB Blazer Innovation Challenge have helped many student-led businesses get off the ground.

Scholarship Categories and Benefits
Scholarships from UA are given out in two main categories:
Competitive and Automatic merit.
Students who complete the specified criteria and conditions for scholarships are automatically awarded scholarships at the time of admission.
