About Emory University Scholarships
Under its Emory University Scholar Programs, the university grants half or full scholarships based on merit. Merit scholarships are only one aspect of scholar programs. Concerning Emory University
In 1919, Emory University established the Graduate School as a separate entity, and in 1948, it granted its inaugural PhD to a chemistry student. Since then, Emory’s graduate program has advanced significantly, and in 2009, we were renamed in honor of Dr. James T. Laney, who served as the university’s president from 1977 to 1993.
In more than 40 programs spanning the humanities, social sciences, biological and natural sciences, public health, nursing, and business, the Laney Graduate School now grants PhDs and Masters degrees. Our graduate students collaborate with renowned academics and researchers to address today’s difficult issues and further the common good in almost every field of study at Emory.

EMORY COLLEGE WOODRUFF SCHOLARS
Among many other advantages, Woodruff Scholars at Emory College of Arts and Sciences provide merit scholarships, exclusive programming, a vibrant Scholars community, and early class registration.
OXFORD COLLEGE WOODRUFF SCHOLARS
Woodruff Scholars at Oxford College provide individualized faculty mentoring in addition to merit awards. When you enroll in your junior year at the Atlanta campus, your scholarship follows you.

GOIZUETA SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Guaranteed admission to the business school, first dibs on business courses, guidance from the business school dean, and membership in a close-knit Scholars community are all benefits of being a Goizueta Scholar.
The selection procedure
In cooperation with distinguished professors, the Office of Admission oversees the selection process for merit-based scholar programs.
Every year, between 8,000 and 10,000 students apply to be Scholars. 175–200 of the students are chosen to be Scholar Finalists. Scholars Finalists Visits, which take place on campus in the spring, are mandatory for finalists. It costs the students nothing for us to bring the finalists to campus.
For many days, candidates will participate in activities and interviews aimed at a deeper understanding of Emory University and the unique opportunities that await them.
In addition to being immediately examined for other minor merit-based scholarships, applicants who are not chosen as finalists for a program are nevertheless thoroughly reviewed for admission under the terms of the application plan they have selected.
The financial aid application process is not connected in any way with the scholar selection process. Merit scholarships are given out ahead of financial aid when a student qualifies for both. If a student applies for financial aid, they may also be eligible for need-based grants and loans if the merit scholarship award does not meet their needs.
