Concerning Simon Fraser University
Simon Fraser University, Canada’s most community-engaged research institution, was founded in 1965 on the picturesque west coast of British Columbia. It has three vibrant metropolitan campuses.
SFU is one of Canada’s best comprehensive universities, and it was the first to introduce an open, inclusive curriculum that fosters study, exploration, community engagement, and a sense of global interconnectedness.
Applied Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Communication, Art and Technology, Education, Environment, Health Sciences, and Science are the eight faculties at SFU that provide a wide range of programs. Furthermore, SFU provides its students with a variety of practical learning options, including work-integrated learning, foreign field schools and exchanges, and the ground-breaking Semester in Dialogue, which centers on social and civic topics.
On the original campus, well-known Canadian architects Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey created, are more than 36 academic buildings, the Trottier Observatory, and the Compute Canada facility, which houses Cedar, one of Canada’s supercomputing and data centers.
SFU’s Harbour Centre campus opened its doors in 1989, right in the middle of Vancouver’s financial sector. The Charles Chang Innovation Center, the Morris J. Wosk Center for Dialogue, the Segal Graduate School of Business, and the Goldcorp Center for the Arts are among the campus’s seven current locations. The Sustainable Energy Engineering department moved into a brand-new building on the Surrey campus in 2019. Renowned architect Bing Thom was responsible for its construction.
With great respect, the university understands that it is situated on the Traditional Coast Salish Lands.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the biggest college athletics organization in the world, has welcomed SFU as its first member from Canada.
