Open Work Permit for Spouses and Family in Canada | Immigrate to Canada with your Family
The new open work permit in Canada makes it easier for permanent residents to see their families. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister said that visa applications would be easier and faster to process. Quicker family get-togethers. Permit holders can get new ones, and candidates in the spouse or family class can get open work permits. These steps make it easier for people to come to the U.S. and help with labor shortages.
While an application for family class sponsorship is being processed, some sponsored partners and their children who depend on them will move to Canada to live with their sponsor as temporary residents. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a temporary public policy that will let these people work in Canada until the end of May while their applications are being reviewed.
Through this government policy, it will be easier for dependent children over the age of 18 who want to live and work in Canada under the family class sponsorship to get an open work visa. Before, the inland spouse sponsorship program was the only way to get one of these open work permits. Now, anyone from outside of Canada can apply for one.
The IRCC says that giving families open work permits will help them keep their financial security, help them fit in with their communities, and solve the country’s labor shortages and economic problems.
Improved application processes and processing times for visas
It was announced by Sean Fraser, who is the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, that the government will speed up the process for obtaining temporary resident visas (TRV) for spouses.
In addition, specialized applications for TRVs that are submitted by a spouse will soon be able to make use of tools that will be made available to the general public. The goal of these changes is to make it easier for separated families to quickly reunite by giving them the opportunity to continue living together while their petitions for permanent residence are being processed. This will make it possible for families to be reunited more quickly.

The government of Canada has announced a number of significant steps in an effort to assist families in reuniting and to address shortages of workers, including the following:

The IRCC said that applicants who had already been processed with these new tools had an amazing approval rate of 93%.
Eligibility Criteria for Getting an Open Work Permit
The IRCC may grant an open work permit to foreign nationals who meet either of the aforementioned criteria.
- A principal applicant who has filed a family class application for permanent residence as a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner and received IRCC’s approval for processing.
- Has also asked for a work permit and a visa that will last no longer than two years.
- Is the subject of a petition for sponsorship filed by their Canadian citizen or permanent resident spouse, common-law partner, or romantic partner
- They must be able to get their status back and have done so, or they must be a temporary resident in Canada at the time of application. They also have to live at the same address in Canada as their sponsor.
- On the application for permanent residency, a child who needs help is listed as a family member who is coming with.
- Has applied for a work visa that allows them to stay for up to two years.
- Has the same home address in Canada as the main applicant and the sponsor.
- Is eligible for a status restoration and has asked for one, or has a valid status as a temporary resident in Canada.
Family Reunification Policies
Sean Fraser, the minister of IRCC, announced on May 26 improvements to encourage family-class immigration and family reunification in Canada. These actions comprise;
- Quicker processing times for spouse candidates seeking temporary residence visas (TRVs), in addition to the new open work permit
- Cutting-edge processing tools specifically designed for spouse TRV candidates
- Give people whose open work permits expire between August 1 and December 31 2023 an extension.
