POSITION: Assistant Registrar (Legal)

About the Role

The Assistant Registrar (Legal) is a pivotal role designed to provide comprehensive legal, administrative, and operational support to the Legal Directorate. Reporting directly to the Director of Legal Services, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for safeguarding the University’s legal interests. Your primary focus will be to assist in the delivery of effective legal services, manage crucial documentation, support compliance efforts, and handle the day-to-day legal administrative functions that keep the University running smoothly.

Consequently, your work will directly impact multiple facets of the institution. You will collaborate with various University Directorates, Faculties, and Units, offering essential legal and administrative guidance. Furthermore, you will act as a key liaison between the University and external legal practitioners, regulatory bodies, and accreditation organizations. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be diverse and require a blend of sharp legal skills and strong organizational abilities. Specifically, you will:

  • Draft and Review Legal Documents: You will assist in the preparation, drafting, and thorough review of all contracts, agreements, official correspondence, and internal legal documents. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount in this function.
  • Manage Litigation and Disputes: You will support the management of all litigation and dispute resolution matters. This includes coordinating effectively with external legal counsel and maintaining clear communication with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain Legal Records: You will take ownership of maintaining and organizing all legal records. This includes managing contract registers, case files, and statutory documentation to ensure easy retrieval and complete compliance.
  • Support Compliance Monitoring: You will actively support compliance monitoring initiatives across the University. Additionally, you will assist in preparing critical reports and submissions required by regulatory and accreditation bodies.
  • Provide Cross-Functional Support: You will provide legal and administrative support to various University Directorates, Faculties, and Units as assigned. Your expertise will be a valuable resource across the institution.
  • Perform Additional Duties: You will carry out any other legal and administrative duties assigned by the Director of Legal Services to support the overall mandate of the Legal Directorate.

Required Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, you must combine a strong academic foundation with practical legal experience. We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree or a Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution is required.
  • Professional Qualification: You must be a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana. This includes having completed the Professional Law Course and being duly enrolled with the General Legal Council.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant post-qualification experience is essential. This experience should come from a legal, administrative, regulatory, or institutional work environment.
  • Preferred Background: Prior experience within a university setting, a public institution, or a corporate organization will be a distinct advantage.
