POSITION: Accounts Payable Lead

THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the supervision of the Head of Procure to Pay, the Lead for Accounts Payable will manage invoice processing and payments for the Mastercard Foundation’s worldwide operations, located at the Ghana Shared Services Hub. You will manage a high-achieving, geographically spread team, guaranteeing precision, compliance, and prompt payments. In this position, you will lead process enhancements, strengthen internal controls, and promote the use of ERP and automation tools to achieve effective, service-focused AP operations.

Collaborating closely with Procurement, Contracts Management, and Finance teams, you will assist in optimizing Source-to-Pay processes and support global shared services initiatives that advance the Foundation’s mission through operational excellence.

METHODS TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION

  • Guide and mentor the Accounts Payable (AP) team in Ghana, along with remote colleagues from Canada and other areas, promoting a culture of collaboration, kindness, respect, inclusion, and excellence.
  • Offer coaching and development chances that improve team skills, facilitate career advancement, and strengthen leadership potential.
  • Create a cooperative setting that enables team members to collectively develop and execute process enhancements that improve service delivery.
  • Guarantee compliance with internal controls, tax laws, and local regulations, aiding in the avoidance of significant audit issues and encouraging fraud prevention initiatives
  • Address inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders with an emphasis on exceptional service, aiming for over 80% resolution on the first contact.
  • Oversee overdue payables (>30 days) through proactive issue resolution and escalation procedures.
  • Encourage a service-focused attitude among the team, reaching internal customer satisfaction ratings of 4.5/5 or above.
  • Promote improvements based on feedback by introducing a minimum of two customer-oriented service enhancement projects annually.
  • Enhance ERP and AP automation tool efficiency by encouraging user engagement, providing training, and attaining 90% user satisfaction among essential stakeholder groups.
  • Facilitate the alignment of worldwide shared services standards by working with teams in various regions to guarantee consistent and dependable delivery.
  • Regularly assess, enhance, and digitalize AP procedures to boost efficiency while managing risks and meeting control standards.
  • Guarantee precise and prompt reporting of AP performance, encompassing monthly and quarterly KPIs, updates on process improvements, and dashboard metrics.
  • Act as the Ghana AP representative in international working groups and interdepartmental collaborations, offering perspectives and aiding in the development of operational processes throughout the Foundation.

YOUR IDENTITY

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline; CPA, ACCA, or a similar professional certification is necessary.
  • At least 10 years of advanced experience in finance operations or shared services, including a minimum of 3 years in a managerial or leadership position.
  • Extensive knowledge in Accounts Payable in intricate, multinational or multi-entity settings.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing geographically distributed teams and cultivating inclusive, high-achieving team environments.
  • Skilled in ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, Workday) and accounts payable automation tools; knowledgeable in digital transformation.
  • Strategic planner with robust analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; capable of converting data into practical insights.
  • Skilled in overseeing intricate projects, enhancing workflows, and promoting operational efficiency.
  • Proficient in risk management, internal controls, and compliance with regulations (both local and international).
  • Dedicated to the Foundation’s principles and enthusiastic about creating inclusive, significant change through your efforts.
