Most of us in one way or the other have had a bad boss or two. We have all been in a situation where you start a job with so much excitement and you are ready to excel in your position.
However, you find out you do not have the most compassionate or ideal boss. That is not a fun situation you want to be in. This is because it is frustrating being stuck with a terrible boss and this can make you lose your job if you do not satisfy their expectations.

When to stand up to your boss.
Before you stand up to your boss you should do a retrospect and see if your boss’s reaction to you is because of your character. Fix yourself if you are at fault so you won’t look disrespectful when you confront them. Nevertheless, when it is your boss’s fault, you absolutely need to confront him. But before that, you need to ask yourself these questions
1. How long will I be working for this person?
Sometimes, you find yourself in certain situations that cause you to just take any job offer. If you are actively looking elsewhere for a job you don’t have to stand up to him/her cause you will certainly leave
2. You need to compare your relative power with your boss
If your boss has built a reputation in the organization before you were hired, the chances of you having a high relative power is very low. In the same way, if you have also established yourself and your boss is new, people will take your word for whatever mistreatment meted out to you
3. Are you the only person under the backlash of your boss
You need to know if everyone on the team is receiving the same treatment as you. The risk of confronting your boss is low if everyone is on the same page as you.
How to Stand Up to Your Boss
1 . Wait for the right time to have a conversation with the boss
To stand up to your boss, you need to pick the perfect time to confront him or her. You don’t have to walk into their office unannounced or confront him in front of others. The meeting with your boss should not be during busy office hours or when there is a crisis being handled. You need to schedule the meeting with the boss directly and not through the personal assistant.
2 . Be observational and specific
When you meet with the boss, it’s important you word your statements the right way. You should be straightforward and not accuse your boss. You could strategically come up with a line of questions that will make the boss realize the problem on their own.
3 . Approach your boss diplomatically
Keep it light when you approach the boss. Do not attack or make the boss feel he is in the wrong. Instead, ask them if there is anything you can do to address an issue. By raising this awareness, your boss will begin to address the problems on their own.
