Things Managers Do That Make Good Employees Quit

Despite the complexities of running a business, having to manage your employees is another complication nobody ever tells you about. That is because it is not easy balancing human resources and the way you run your business. Every employee you hire has a different personality and has different goals and needs.

Therefore when your organization does not match who they are they tend to leave, however, some employees resign from their jobs because of their leaders. Here are some things Managers Do That send good employees packing away.

1 . They overwork people

Many times, employees resign from their jobs because their bosses overburden them with a lot of responsibilities and this burns them out. Good employees often feel they are being punished for great performance. That is because their managers have some unreasonable expectations or make them work for more hours making them unhappy. Most employees wish to have a healthy work balance but ignoring this will leave them no option but to leave.

2 . Not recognizing their contributions and not rewarding them.

Employees that feel they are not valued or recognized are more likely to quit their jobs. They feel they are not being appreciated enough and hence will start looking elsewhere. Normally we underestimate the power of commendation especially with employees giving their best. Everyone likes to be appreciated.

Managers, therefore, have the task to find out what makes their employees feel good.  Is it a reward, a raise in their money, or public praise? Not creating the right atmosphere will drive your best worker elsewhere

3 . Not respecting their employees

More than half of people who quit their jobs do so because their managers do not respect them and treat them fairly. It is important to distinguish between treating people in a professional manner and treating them as humans.

Employees feel the need to be heard and respected, but if this one need of theirs is ignored, they feel they have to leave. Because the managers are not concerned about them, even when they are hurt, no empathy is shown towards them which makes them feel they don’t matter.

4 . Not encouraging them to develop

Employees are passionate about progressing in their careers. If they are not given the opportunity to nurture their talents they will end up leaving. No human likes to be stuck, we all want to be climbing the ladder to meet their goals. Employers need to provide opportunities for growth and advancement through training. Not investing in your employees is a major cause of turnover in most companies.

5 . Failing to challenge employees intellectually

When bosses do not engage their employees in an intellectual manner, they tend to get bored. Hence, seek jobs that will challenge them. Great bosses are expected to push their employees out of their comfort zones. And also, do everything they can to see them succeed.

In Conclusion

You need to be cautious about how you treat your employees, especially those that perform greatly. You need to make them want to work with you because they know they can have options if they want to.
