Job Summary
The Sorting Hub Team Lead oversees the sorting team, providing direct supervision, leadership, and managing performance. This position guarantees the day-to-day operational effectiveness of the sorting center, promotes compliance with Jumia’s quality and safety regulations, and serves as the main connection between the operational area and management.
What you will be engaging in
- Supervise and Direct Personnel: Offer direct, practical leadership and oversight to Sorting Hub Operators, delegating daily responsibilities, establishing shift priorities, and overseeing workflow to guarantee all operational objectives and service level agreements (SLAs) are achieved.
- Training and Development: Educate, guide, and coach sorting operators on defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), effective sorting methods, and safety protocols, promoting a culture of ongoing learning.
- Performance Monitoring: Track individual and team performance indicators (e.g., sorting efficiency, mistake frequency, output volume) and hold regular feedback meetings, implementing corrective measures as needed to uphold high standards.
- Operational Supervision: Supervise and direct all daily activities, ensuring the effective sorting, handling, and processing of incoming and outgoing shipments within the hub.
- Issue Resolution: Serve as the primary escalation point for operational challenges, promptly addressing issues related to sorting discrepancies, process management, or equipment failures to reduce delays.
We seek candidates who possess/are:
- Qualifications from post-secondary education or equivalent; further education or training in logistics, supply chain management, or a similar area is advantageous.
- At least 3 years of experience in overseeing sorting hub operations, logistics, or warehouse management, showcasing proven leadership and supervisory abilities.
- Demonstrated capability to use sorting machines and equipment, such as conveyors, scanners, and sorting systems.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, capable of prioritizing tasks, making decisions, and addressing challenges in a dynamic setting.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capability to engage effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
- Expertise in utilizing technological tools and systems for tracking, overseeing, and reporting sorting operations.
- Familiarity with safety standards and effective methods in sorting hub activities.
- The capability to work autonomously with little oversight and also collaborate within a team.
- Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by operational demands
