Kumasi: NDC communicator arrested for using Mahama’s name to defraud businessman to the tune of GH¢150,000

A Circuit Court in Kumasi has remanded a known communicator of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region into police custody for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting victims by using the name of former President John Mahama.

Gabriel Agah, the accused, who has pleaded not guilty, has been charged with defrauding by pretence.

The accused allegedly defrauded a businessman, Nana Poku Agyemang, of GH150,000 by using the name of former President John Mahama.

Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagodzi, Head of Legal and Prosecution at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, stated that “so far, GH50,000 has been collected.” He even went after another GH100,000 and was apprehended.”

Following a tip, he was apprehended by police in Kumasi on December 12.

The prosecution asked the court to remand the suspect so that the police could conduct further investigation.

Her Honour Jacqueline Avotri presided over the case, which was adjourned to January 5, 2022.
