POSITION: Cable Bolt Operator
Company Overview
Akyem Underground Mining Alliance. (“UMAA”) It is a collaboration between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International, focused on underground development and production activities for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
Position Overview
UMA is looking to hire qualified and experienced individuals for the following role: Cable Bolt Operator. These are Fixed Term roles based in Obuasi with a competitive work schedule at its operations in Obuasi. The compensation package features a competitive salary and incentive bonuses based on performance for suitable candidates.

Main Duties
- Manage and upkeep cable bolting machines, hydraulic drills, and related equipment to install cable bolts, rock bolts, and mesh in line with mine plans and engineering requirements.
- Perform quality control inspections to verify that cable bolts are installed per specifications.
- Perform hazard evaluations in the workplace prior to starting cable bolting operations.
- Analyze ground support designs and place bolts according to designated arrangements, sizes, and tensions.
- Create holes to the specified depth and angle with specialized cable bolting equipment.
- Prepare, cut, and place cables into drilled openings, making sure they are positioned correctly according to engineering specifications.
- Combine and inject grout into cable bolt spaces for support and steadiness.
- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections on cable bolting machinery to confirm safe and effective operation.
- Observe equipment functionality and notify the maintenance team of any faults or defects.
- Ensure proper cleanliness of the cable bolting tools and nearby workspaces.
- Precisely document daily work tasks, encompassing bolt installation information and materials utilized.
- Collaborate with mining and ground control teams to enhance efficiency.
- Adhere to all underground safety guidelines and protocols, including the correct utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Guarantee adherence to mining regulations, corporate policies, and leading industry standards.
- Recognize and report hazards, safety incidents, near misses, ground control problems, and unsafe work conditions to supervisors.
- Involve yourself in safety meetings and shift transitions.
- Engage in safety discussions and evaluate risks.
- Guide trainees and support team training initiatives.
Required Skills or Experience
- Acknowledged Trade Certificate via a validated apprenticeship or organization or Minerals Commission (MINCOM) Certification.
- At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in a comparable position, ideally within a gold mining setting.
- Must have a valid Ghanaian driving license and operating permits (C & E Classes) and be capable of driving a manual SUV.
- Familiarity with operating mechanized cable bolting machines like Sandvik, Atlas Copco, or comparable cable bolting rigs.
- Thorough knowledge of underground support methods, geotechnical concepts, and mining safety regulations.
- Understanding of safety protocols and regulations associated with cable bolting.
- Adaptability and readiness to help with diverse tasks and duties.
- Readiness to work in outdoor settings and diverse weather conditions.
- Must show a solid work ethic and be capable of interacting politely with colleagues.
- Knowledge and skills in hazard identification and risk evaluation.
- Capacity to perform under stress and the motivation to learn and succeed.
- Capability to perform on both day and night shifts
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
