Job Opening at Ghana Baptist University College
The governing council of Ghana Baptist University College is seeking applications from qualified candidates to occupy the role of Finance Officer.
Responsibilities of the Finance Officer
The Finance Officer serves as the Chief Accounting Officer of the University College and will be accountable for the following responsibilities under the direction of the President and the Council:
- The oversight and organization of the University’s financial resources.
- Make certain that appropriate accounting books and records of the University’s assets and liabilities are maintained in a manner and format as stipulated by the Council.
- Prepare the statement of accounts and estimates for the Council’s review, as decided by the Council.
- Develop a Business Plan and Budget for the University.
- Guarantee the thoroughness, precision, and dependability of financial documentation and data required for decision-making.
- Encourage fund-raising, secure financing for the GBUC at the lowest possible capital cost, and guarantee wise investment of extra funds according to the University’s investment policy.
- Guarantee effective handling of financial risk.
- Provide support to Internal and External Auditors in fulfilling their responsibilities.
- Oversee, organize, and assess the tasks of staff responsible for accounts, budgets, income generation, expenditures, and the reduction of inefficiencies in the system.
- Lead and engage in the development of operating and capital budgets at the Central Administration level; offer technical support in budgeting and budget analysis at the School and Department levels.
- Commence and oversee the implementation of enhanced financial systems and practices.
- Foster strong relationships with public and private financial institutions and stay informed about economic factors impacting the University.
- Accept all grants, properties, and incoming funds due to the University; and ensure careful management and handling of all GBUC financial resources and assets.
- Keep accurate records of income and expenses, assets and debts, and provide quarterly reports to the University President.
- Efficiently oversee all Finance Staff and collaborate with the Registrar to implement performance management and job enrichment for optimal utilization of human resources.
Required Qualifications & Experience
The candidate must have the following qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance
- M.Phil./MBA/M.A. in Accounting or Finance or comparable qualifications
- Belong to an acknowledged professional accounting organization like:
- Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG)
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
- Certified Public Accountants (CPA)
- Lead and engage in the development of operating and capital budgets at the Central Administration level; offer technical support in budgeting and budget analysis at the School and Department levels.

Required Qualifications & Experience
The candidate must have the following qualifications:

- Instituto dos Contabilistas Certificados, Gana (ICAG)
- The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
- Certified Public Accountants (CPA)
- Furthermore, the candidate should have worked as Deputy Finance Officer/Internal Auditor or Principal Accountant/Internal Auditor or a comparable position in a similar organization for at least ten (10) years.
- Must possess strong knowledge and expertise in employing Accounting and Auditing methodologies and tools, including the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Accounting and Auditing Standards, and applicable regulations.
- Strong expertise in constructing intricate financial models to assess diverse financial strategies and initiatives, possessing technical skills and experience in cash flow projections and analyses.
Conditions of Employment
The Internal Auditor / Finance Officer will serve for an initial period of three (3) years. The renewal of the appointment may occur upon request for a duration set by the Governing Council. The candidate must be no older than 62 by August 2024.
