How to Apply And Get A Student Loan In Ghana

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) is a public institution established under the Trustee Incorporation Act 1962. Act 106 is to provide financial resources for the benefit of students and to promote, facilitate the national ideals as protected in Articles 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution. It was to replace the SSNIT Students Loan Scheme. The Students Loan Trust Fund Act 2011, Act 820 was passed by Parliament of Ghana.

Qualification to Get A Student Loan In Ghana

To be able to access the student loan the following must be considered. Until these are provided the application will not be successful;
The school is a tertiary Institution accredited by the Ghana National Accreditation Board.
Programmes offered are accredited by NAB
Only Ghanaian citizens living and schooling in Ghana qualify
Only needy applicants are considered

Requirements for Student Loan In Ghana

1. Telephone number of both applicant and guarantor
2. An E-zwich account that is linked to your Bank account in the same bank.
3. Social security number
4. Should be a registered student of an accredited school
5. Must have one personal guarantor who should either be a SSNIT contributor, MMDA, Religious or Corporate Body.
6. Two passport size photographs

Eligibility for Student Loan In Ghana

1. You must be a Ghanaian
2. Have gained admission to study an accredited tertiary program in an accredited tertiary institution or university in Ghana.
3. Must be pursuing an undergraduate tertiary program a degree or diploma.

Students pursuing weekend and evening programmes are eligible to apply for the student loan. The policy of the SLTF is that sandwich programme students are not eligible for the loan.

How to Apply for student loan

Log on to the SLTF website www.sltf.gov.gh
Follow link on website and apply for loan
Follow general instructions in filling out forms online
Upload a passport picture online
Print out the summary of your Loan Application Form
Print out and complete the Guarantor Deed and Students Loan
Your fingerprints (INDEX AND THUMB) and your guarantor’s
Thumb print taken at any SSNIT office.
You will be assisted by a SSNIT official.
Attach photocopies of;
Student ID card and Admission letter.
SSNIT ID number or SSNIT reference number.
e-zwich card (both sides).
Submit 2 original copies of the completed forms and copies of the supporting documents to your respective SLTF Campus Office
