Home Office Announces Passport Fees Set To Rise From April 2024

Home Office Announces Passport Fees Set To Rise From April 2024

The Home Office announced a 7% increase in passport costs for the upcoming month. Let’s examine the new expense in more detail as well as the factors that led to this adjustment.

The recommendations state that the fee for online application submission in the UK for those 16 years of age and above will increase from £82.50 to £88.50. In addition, children under 16 will now pay £57.50 instead of £53.50 for passports. In a similar vein, subject to parliamentary approval, the fees for postal and international applications will also increase. The alterations will take effect on April 11th.

Did you know that in February 2023, passport fees increased by almost 9%? According to the Home Office, the extra revenue from these applications will lessen the reliance on general taxation revenues by paying for the cost of passport distribution and associated activities.

Furthermore, the Home Office stated that this increase in passport application fees will not result in any financial gain for the government. The following are some ways that the fees would increase the cost incurred:

  • Passport application processing
  • Overseas Consul support including stolen or lost passports
  • British citizens processing at UK borders

The Home Office claims that the higher costs will allow the government to keep enhancing its offerings.
