(Fully Funded) China Shanghai Government Scholarship 2023–2024
The Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, created in 2006, aims to draw exceptional foreign students and scholars to East China Normal University and advance the growth of international student education in Shanghai (ECNU).
Outstanding overseas students wishing to enroll in ECNU’s undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. programs may apply for this grant. HSK-3 level Chinese fluency is required for applicants to the undergraduate program, or students can choose to enroll in a one-year pre-college program (with a May 10 application deadline) to learn Mandarin with a full scholarship.
If after finishing the pre-college program the candidate is unable to reach the required HSK level, they will graduate as a language student.

Advantages of a scholarship
Type A (Full scholarship)
Free from paying tuition fees and living on campus; offers full health insurance and monthly living expenses (Doctoral program: CNY3500; Graduate program: CNY3000; Undergraduate program: CNY2500)
Type B (Partial scholarship)
- No tuition fees and full-service health insurance are provided.
Nationalities that qualify:
- The recipients of this scholarship may be from other countries.
Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates must be healthy and non-Chinese nationals.
- Level and maximum age:
- Pre-college applicants must be under 23 and have a high school diploma.
- Candidates for bachelor’s degree programs must be under 25 and have a high school diploma.
- Anyone seeking a master’s degree must be under 35 and hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Candidates for doctoral programs must be under 40 and possess a master’s degree.
- Students are not eligible to apply for SGS if they have received the Chinese Government Scholarship or any other scholarship provided by another organization.
