POSITION: Program Manager

Project Summary

Jhpiego, together with The Latter-Day Saints Charities, aims to employ a collaborative method to execute a project focused on enhancing and maintaining the capabilities of secondary-level hospitals and their referral centers in the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions, to address maternal and newborn complications at delivery, as well as care for small and vulnerable newborns.

The Program Manager will assist with quick initiation, execution, and reporting for the project, encompassing work planning; providing technical and program assistance to teams and working groups, writing reports, overseeing finances and managing sub-awards; operations and administration.

The PM will collaborate closely with clinical personnel, support teams, the home office, and donors to guarantee the project’s success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive execution plans and financial estimates, present them for evaluation and endorsement with defined team responsibilities aligned with the program proposal, while working closely with both internal and external collaborators
  • Utilize human, material, and financial resources suitable for the program.
  • Keep track of the project budget by regularly comparing budgeted versus actual (BVA) expenses and actively create prompt solutions to address any under- or overspending following organizational and donor guidelines.
  • Guarantee ongoing oversight of program actions, along with prompt and precise assessment and documentation of advancements towards reaching program aims and targets.
  • Oversee and direct a team of skilled personnel; synchronize their activities with program objectives.
  • Gather technical insights from various international experts and assist global advisors in gaining a clearer understanding of the project’s local context.
  • Oversee and manage both short-term and long-term consultants involved in program initiatives.
  • Create risk mitigation strategies for the program in collaboration with teams to ensure effective implementation, recognizing delays and notifying the Technical Director.
  • Diagnose issues to avert and address possible complications, and assess results for quality assurance.
  • Make sure that project reports and publications maintain high quality and are completed on schedule according to established deadlines.
  • Assist in managing project knowledge management by contributing to the creation and upkeep of a project intranet site and distributing project deliverables.
  • Assist in external communications initiatives by creating or evaluating success stories, articles, blog posts, or various other external communication materials.

Qualifications, Expertise, Background, and Competencies

  • MPH or comparable higher degree
  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience overseeing donor-funded projects or research studies, or other applicable work for the role (e.g., creating or executing programs, engaging in health/development sector, international experience, collaborating with donor or multilateral agencies, business development, or grants administration).
  • Certified in PM@Jhpiego (Jhpiego’s internal project management training) or PMD Pro, or will obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Strong preference for experience in implementing USG programming.
  • Proficient in overseeing and guiding team members.
  • Robust organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail
  • Powerful skills in problem-solving and decision-making
  • Timely prepared and submitted high-quality reports for donors/funders.
  • Oversaw partners within a consortium.
  • Effectively created, assessed, and examined budgets.
  • Effectively created work plans in conjunction with various partners.
  • Comprehension of international health, development initiatives, and financial management concepts.
  • A dedication to being responsive and fostering a positive team environment.
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal English.
  • Possess experience in the specified province; proficiency in the local language is an advantage.
  • Capability to move around the nation
