Latest Job Opportunity at Jhpiego

POSITION: Driver

Jhpiego, an international nonprofit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University, is seeking a reliable and experienced Driver to join our team in Accra. If you possess a clean driving record, strong administrative skills, and a commitment to safety, this opportunity offers meaningful work that truly matters.

Why Jhpiego?

For 40 years, Jhpiego has worked across more than 155 countries to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. In Ghana, we have partnered with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service for four decades, providing technical support in cervical cancer treatment, community health, HIV and AIDS, maternal and newborn health, family planning, malaria, and COVID-19 response. Currently, we are implementing the SUPREME LIFELINES project, a Unitaid funded initiative focused on unlocking access to lifesaving tools for pre eclampsia and maternal anemia. As a Driver, you will play a vital role in supporting this critical work.

Your Mission

You will transport Jhpiego staff, partners, and materials to project sites across the region. Your role extends beyond driving—you will ensure vehicles remain well maintained, operate safely, and adhere to all local laws and traffic regulations. Additionally, you will support administrative tasks that keep our office running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Your work spans driving, vehicle maintenance, documentation, safety, and administrative support. Here is what you will tackle:

Driving & Passenger Care

  • You will ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers at every moment. Treating everyone aboard with courtesy and respect regardless of gender, age, religion, or nationality reflects our values.
  • Keeping your supervisor informed when driving at night or into potentially unsafe areas demonstrates sound judgment.
  • Using vehicles for official purposes only and undertaking deliveries of materials and documents with clear instructions keeps operations efficient.
  • Assisting passengers with schedules, information, and route directions adds value beyond transportation.

Repair & Maintenance

  • Keeping vehicles clean at all times and refueling when required maintains professional standards.
  • Carrying out necessary inspections and completing daily safety and maintenance checks prevents issues before they arise.
  • Performing minor maintenance and repairs such as replacing bulbs, refilling radiator water, and changing tires keeps vehicles road ready.
  • Ensuring timely oil changes and maintenance for lubricants like brake fluid and engine oil protects our assets.
  • Planning and completing vehicle maintenance on schedule avoids unnecessary downtime.

Documentation

  • Maintaining accurate records including vehicle logs, fuel usage, oil changes, and maintenance records ensures accountability.
  • Following Jhpiego safety and security guidelines and notifying your supervisor of any safety or maintenance concerns keeps everyone protected.

Safety & Security

  • Ensuring all passengers wear seat belts properly at all times is non negotiable.
  • Not permitting unauthorized adults or children to travel in Jhpiego vehicles upholds our policies.
  • Complying with all applicable safety requirements, laws, and regulations keeps you and our passengers safe.
  • Conducting regular safety checks on assigned vehicles, documenting findings, and following up on action points demonstrates thoroughness.

Administrative Support

  • Supporting the maintenance of safety and security in the office building extends your contribution beyond driving.
  • Assisting the office manager with administrative tasks such as paying utility bills, banking including check deposits and cashing, and making purchases from vendors adds versatility to your role.
  • Supporting the management of office premises by supervising garden maintenance, generator upkeep and refueling, and air conditioner maintenance keeps our workspace functional.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right qualifications, experience, and skills. Here is what you need:

  • Senior High School Certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license with an accident free record.
  • Defensive driving certificate gives you a distinct advantage.
  • Five years of experience, ideally within an international organization or corporation.
  • Ability to conduct routine vehicle maintenance independently.
  • Past experience with administrative tasks.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office, email, and internet.
  • Good knowledge of basic vehicle operations and maintenance requirements.

Our Expectations

All Jhpiego staff members model our mission and values, participate in business development, contribute to knowledge sharing, make responsible decisions, embrace team spirit, and manage competing priorities effectively.
