Canada Immigration New Changes in 2024 – IRCC | Canada PR

In 2024, do you intend to immigrate to Canada? These are some popular subjects that you may want to keep an eye on. The start of category-based Express Entry lotteries has made the past year in Canadian immigration quite fascinating. Over the following three years, Canada also flattened its immigration numbers plan.

The public’s perception of immigration in Canada is likewise at its lowest level since 1998, which could have an impact on temporary residents. Global events, Canada’s economy, and the political environment all have an impact on immigration rules that affect immigrants like you, whether you’re already in the country and applying for permanent residence or are preparing to make a huge change.

The previous year’s events have prepared the way for 2024. This article focuses on the reasons behind Canada’s immigration minister’s discussion of lowering the country’s temporary resident count, working holiday visa requirements, and things to think about when deciding between the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Express Entry for your immigration application.

Will Canada reduce temporary residence in 2024?

The political landscape surrounding immigration appears to be shifting in tandem with Canada’s housing scarcity and growing expense of living. According to Mark Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, he intends to limit the number of temporary immigrants admitted to the country in 2024. There are rumors in the Globe and Mail that early in the New Year, statements regarding the temporary resident cap may be made.

According to a report published in October 2023 by the Environics Institute, immigrant support in Canada is declining. Support for the state is at an all-time low, even though most Canadians still believe that immigration boosts the economy. This has been the case since 1998. 78% of Canadians, down 11% from the previous study in 2022, concur that immigration boosts the country’s economy.

Still, economic worries seem to be more of the cause of the declining views on immigration than xenophobia. According to the Environics Institute, anxieties about housing more than immigration are the main causes of concerns about an excessive number of immigrants endangering Canada’s culture and values.

In Canada, on the other hand, multiculturalism is still highly regarded. While the overall number of immigrants is declining in nations like Australia, the UK, France, and the US, Canada is sticking to its earlier immigration targets of accepting 485,000 new immigrants in 2024 and 500,000 in 2025 and 2026.

The cost of living criterion for overseas students studying in Canada has already been increased from $10,000 to USD 20,635. There may be other steps in the works to restrict the number of temporary residents, including students and foreign workers employed for a short period. However, according to the minister of immigration, the main goal of these steps would be to stop fraud that has previously made it possible for foreign students to enter the country without knowing.

Canada Temporary Residence 2024

Canada is still dedicated to helping people. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced plans in December to grant temporary residency status to hundreds of Canadian relatives impacted by the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, Canada anticipates hosting some 990,000 youth in 2024 as part of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program.

Canada Working Holiday

Would you like to spend a working vacation in Canada? You may be permitted to work in Canada while you travel if you are from one of the IEC-eligible nations. Through the three IEC programs, Canada will once again accept up to 990,000 international youth in 2024, ranging in age from 18 to 35 (depending on the nation).

The most well-liked of these initiatives is the Working Holiday Visa, which enables applicants to perform for any Canadian employer, wherever in the nation. As long as your work permit is still valid, you can even change jobs. Although the other two programs are closed to new applicants, they may still be beneficial for individuals who already have a job offer in Canada.

The International Co-op and Young Professionals are two of these initiatives. After a year, you might have more alternatives if you decide you want to remain in Canada and get permanent resident status.

Express Entry versus PNP

Through Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), hundreds of thousands of new immigrants to Canada are expected to become permanent residents over the course of the next three years.

Express Entry

The automated application management system for three permanent residency programs is called Express Entry.

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC); for individuals with professional Canadian work experience
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); for those with a background in skilled labor
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); designed for individuals with prior trade expertise

You receive a score on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and an Express Entry profile if you qualify for any or all of these programs. Your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration through Express Entry increase with your score.

In six months, the IRCC wants to handle 80% of the applications. Stated differently, you could obtain permanent residency six months after IRCC receives your application.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP

A Canadian immigration policy called the Provincial Nominee policy (PNP) enables the provinces and territories to design immigration pathways specifically suited to their labor markets. Candidates must first apply for a provincial nomination before using it to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Immigration candidates listed in the Express Entry system are invited by certain PNPs. In this instance, the applicant must first be qualified for one of the Express Entry programs listed before. They are requested to apply for a provincial nomination, and if accepted, their CRS score will automatically be increased by 600 points. Receiving such an honor positions them to get an ITA in a later Express Entry draw.

PNP or Express Entry

Knowing the gist of how it’s all done, which one suits you the best? Well, that depends. These are two economic immigration pathways that choose applicants who have proven they can fit in with the workforce in Canada. The qualifications for these programs include things like formal language fluency, work experience, and education.

A specific level of specialized work expertise is necessary for Express Entry. Work experience is considered skilled in Canada if it fits into one of the National Occupational Classification’s (NOC) Tier categories (0, 1, 2, or 3). Depending on which program you qualify for—FSTP, CEC, or FSWP—you might receive an invitation to apply if you are qualified for Express Entry.

You might also receive an invitation to apply in an all-program or general draw where a high CRS score is given priority if you qualify for category-based selection. You are not required to be eligible for Express Entry to use the PNP. Additionally, base PNPs that utilize their application management systems are provided by participating provinces and territories.

If you have job experience in an occupation that is in demand but not necessarily skilled, you can be qualified for a PNP in specific circumstances. The provinces set the demand for particular jobs based on their labor markets.

What About Quebec’s Immigration

Instead of taking part in the PNP or Express Entry, Quebec offers its immigration programs, such as the Quebec Experience Program, which is intended for qualified workers who speak French.
