Australia Skilled Visa Priority Processing in 2024 | Australia Visa Update

The Australian government has announced changes to prioritize skilled visas in 2024 to meet Australia’s migration demands, as the focus this year is on filling gaps and shortages outside of major Australian cities. Priority will be given to candidates whose employers are situated in designated regional areas, and their visas will be processed first.

States with a greater concentration of regional applicants are granted precedence for several visas, including the Employer Nomination, Temporary Skills Shortage, Regional-Sponsored Migration, and Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional Provisional Visas.

Preference will be given to those working in licensed teaching or healthcare positions, such as social workers, counselors, medical scientists, administrators, school instructors, and Child Care Center staff.

Additionally, candidates who support the immigration program will be given precedence by the Department of Home Affairs, followed by those who are suggested by accredited sponsors who have been accepted. In this post, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Australia’s skilled visa priority in 2024.

Understanding Designated Regional Areas

To divide the population and workforce of the nation more evenly, the Department of Home Affairs has expanded the definition of designated Regional zones. Fortunately, the majority of Australian cities, including Canberra, Adelaide, and Perth, are only designated as regional due to immigration concerns.

Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, the three largest capital cities of Australia, are not covered by the 482 Temporary Skills Shortage Visa, 494 Skilled Regional Visa, or 186 Permanent Residence Visa. Due to this reclassification, immigrants now have more opportunities for employment and new pathways to permanent residency.

Benefits and Incentives of Regional Visas

As an added incentive, candidates for the 494 Skilled Regional Visa and other related visas can take advantage of several benefits designed to make regional migration more appealing. The 482 TSS Visa followed suit and now provides a similar PR pathway after just two years of employment. The 494 Visa is notable for its five-year Visa term and three-year track to permanent residency.

By differentiating between Category 2 cities and large regional centers and Category 3 regional centers and other regional areas, the incentives are further tailored to the particular needs and opportunities of each region. This could entail gaining an advantage when negotiating the DAMA program or receiving extra points on the visa application.

Which Occupations are Being Prioritized?

In Australia, skilled labor will be scarce in several industries by 2024. Furthermore, there was a scarcity in one-third of the roles the year before, especially in professional fields including science, technology, and health as well as crafts and technical jobs.

The following industries were identified to have severe shortages: mechanical engineering, electrical work, cyber security, pathology, dentistry, elderly care, and child care. Many of the jobs that were in high demand the previous year are probably going to stay in demand once the 2024 Skilled Priority list is updated.

Impact of the 2024 Priority Processing

The Department of Home Affairs notes that designated regional areas have the potential to experience significant socioeconomic development. To this end, the department is attracting qualified individuals to hitherto unexplored locations to set the stage for a targeted processing timeline in 2024.

It is anticipated that this well-thought-out plan will strengthen regional economies while also relieving pressure on big cities. While this gives immigrants a unique opportunity to find new opportunities in Australia, it also gives regional businesses access to a new talent pool that has the power to drastically alter the local labor market and community.

An important turning point in Australia’s immigration history has been the shift in focus towards employer-sponsored visas in specified regional areas. In 2024, it will be imperative that employers and prospective migrants receive education and consider the benefits of regional mobility.

The demographic and economic landscape of Australia is predicted to change, but the country’s cultural fabric will also be strengthened by their contributions to their new communities, according to current trends. Depending on several variables, the Australian government’s processing periods for these visas can change.
