POSITION: Project Driver
Position Summary
The position ensures secure and dependable transport for project personnel and visitors while assisting with project logistics. The Project Driver is responsible for the prompt delivery and retrieval of official documents, materials, and equipment necessary for the efficient execution of the ActionAid Ghana/Habitat for Humanity International Climate Adaptation Project. The position involves assisting with meeting arrangements, managing field logistics, and handling minor administrative duties to ensure successful project execution.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
Automobile Operation/Control
- Transport project personnel and visitors securely to and from field activities, workshops, and official events.
- Convey project materials and equipment to specified sites.
- Perform daily checks on the designated vehicle to confirm it is functioning properly and inform the supervisor of any problems.
Consistently keep the vehicle clean.
- Verify that all vehicle paperwork (insurance, roadworthy certificate, registration, etc.) is current and valid.
- Keep a precise vehicle log and provide monthly reports.
- Guarantee prompt and safe delivery/collection of project-related correspondence and parcels.
- Arrange pick-ups and drop-offs for staff, consultants, and visitors at airports, bus stations, and hotels when required.
Administrative
- Gather and transport invoices, cheques, and supplies related to the project as needed.
- Assistance in arranging hotel or accommodation bookings for project personnel and visitors.
- Help organize meeting and training locations by coordinating seating arrangements and materials.
- Offer logistical assistance during project workshops and field operations.
- Help with printing, photocopying, scanning, and assembling project materials.
- Buy food and drinks for meetings as instructed.
- Help in coordinating events or community activities related to the project.
- Capture images during site visits and project activities as required.
- Gather and hand back workshop supplies, including flipcharts, guides, and stationery.
Personnel Safety, Security, and Risk Oversight Position
- Perform routine maintenance inspections and small repairs to guarantee the vehicle remains in excellent shape.
- Make certain the vehicle’s necessary safety devices are operational.
- Guarantee prompt servicing and upkeep of the vehicle according to the manufacturer’s timetable and AAG guidelines.
- Update vehicle documents before expiration to prevent fines or limitations.
- Consistently adhere to all road traffic laws and AAG’s transportation guidelines.
- Notify the supervisor about any incidents or accidents right away.
Additional Duties
- Help gather media resources (images, videos, statements) during site visits.
- Assistance with the setup of media equipment as needed.
- Exhibit a professional and respectful demeanour that embodies AAG’s values to guests, collaborators, and community individuals.
- Engage actively in team discussions and aid in the efficient operation of the group.
- Carry out any additional official tasks delegated by the Project Manager or supervisor.
Responsibilities for Safeguarding
- Distribute ActionAid’s Child Protection and Safeguarding guidelines to visitors and partners participating in project activities, especially those interacting with children.
- Obtain consent from parents or guardians before engaging children in any activity.
- Make sure to obtain appropriate consent prior to taking pictures or recording videos of children, and clarify how the material will be used.
Education and Qualifications
- WASSCE or a similar qualification
- Applicable specialized skills training (e.g., Defensive Driving Certification)
- A Ghanaian driving license that is valid (at least Class B)
- Fundamental Understanding and Expertise
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a professional driver
- Understanding of road signs and traffic rules
- Strong defensive driving abilities
- Understanding fundamental security and safety procedures.
- Fundamental computer proficiency
- Outstanding understanding of maneuvering in city and countryside environments
- Timeliness and dependability in managing time
Preferred Skills and Background
- Fundamental understanding of automotive mechanics
- Capacity to communicate and comprehend regional languages in project locations.
- Overall comprehension of AAG’s activities and capacity to summarize it succinctly to external parties.
