POSITION: Head of Client Coverage 

Position Overview

The position is:

  • Responsible for delivering leadership to the Business and CIB Coverage sectors at both regional and national levels.
  • Charged with acquiring clients, retaining them, optimizing share of wallet, fostering growth in market share, and facilitating enterprise development and transformation.
  • Responsible for enabling trade-offs among segments, sectors, and products to attain the intended commercial structure within the country and region.
  • The individual in this role will be responsible for the sales and service outcomes of CIB Coverage, both locally and regionally.
  • Serves as the highest representative of CIB Coverage in the Region
  • Serve as the leader for all CIB Coverage Sector Heads in Ghana.

Main Responsibilities

Propel Business Success

  • Foster new business expansion in accordance with the Bank’s commercial growth objectives.
  • Develop and sustain advantageous partnerships with important CIB clients, such as CEOs from major corporations and essential public sector representatives in the country and region.
  • Enhance sales performance at both the country and regional levels to achieve the intended commercial and customer structure.
  • Continuously track country and regional performance against the scorecard, determine underlying reasons for underperformance, and create and execute corrective plans with relevant stakeholders throughout the value chain.

Planning and Implementation of Strategy

  • Create a strategy for CIB coverage at both the country and regional levels.
  • Responsible for implementing the bank’s local and regional Coverage strategy.
  • Partner with pan Pan-Africa Sector and Product Leaders to guarantee strategies are coordinated throughout West Africa.

Customer Engagement

  • Create and execute strategies to improve and expand the customer value proposition, service, delivery, and client interaction in alignment with the overall product strategies.
  • Responsible for promoting and overseeing in-country and regional Coverage customer experience standards, addressing service failures, recognizing lead indicators of service problems, and working with Segment, Sector, and Product Heads to formulate corrective actions that proactively resolve issues to maintain a high standard of customer experience.

Individuals and Culture

  • Guide and advance the colleague initiative.
  • Fosters and maintains a culture that aligns with CIB’s desired employee experience to achieve the intended customer experience.
  • Responsible for communicating the CIB strategy to coverage teams.
  • Responsible for strategic workforce planning, aligning short and long-term sourcing needs to ensure that CIB Coverage is adequately staffed to fulfill demand, compliance, and customer experience expectations.
  • Integration of essential strategic systems like Salesforce, MyMI. Score sheet, etc

Preserve a sound Risk profile & Oversight.

  • Recognize and accept responsibility for the designated main risks associated with the area according to the Absa Bank Ghana Operational Risk Management Framework, and confirm that sufficient controls are established within the scope of the role’s responsibilities.
  • Oversee all business risk actions (encompassing business assurance and operational risk management) within this operational environment by gathering feedback and offering guidance for tactical strategies to guarantee adherence to Group standards.
  • Foster a culture of proactive compliance and risk management among the executive team and the department.
  • Evaluate the risk management and compliance strategies of this function as a complete entity and identify aspects that need enhancement to the team leaders. Make certain that they recognize their duty for owning the risk.
  • Responsible for maintaining an effective and compliant control environment within CIB that suitably aligns risk appetites and customer needs with the requirement to expand in order to meet the financial goals and balance sheet targets of CIB.
  • Make certain that CIB coverage teams have the necessary capabilities (infrastructure, personnel, procedures, and culture) to adhere to applicable regulations and governance.

Expansion of regional business

  • Create the West Africa regional plan in accordance with CIB objectives.
  • Enhance comprehension of the recognized new countries and collaborate closely with sovereign risk teams to synchronize on credit preferences.
  • Absa’s brand positioning in markets where it is not present.
  • Recognize growth possibilities in key sectors within semi and non-presence markets.
  • Establish explicit deliverables and budgets for chosen non-presence markets.
  • Discover and create opportunities in semi and non-presence markets.
  • Guide and collaborate across sectors, products, and credit to develop and implement semi and non-presence markets in the West.
  • Absa’s brand placement in markets with no presence.
  • Establish and nurture advantageous connections with major CIB clients, such as CEOs of large corporations and prominent public sector officials, throughout the region.
  • Identify expansion prospects in key sectors within the semi and absence markets.
  • Establish transparent outcomes and financial plans for chosen non-presence markets.
  • Locate and Establish agreements in semi and non-presence markets.
  • Guide and collaborate across sectors, product, and credit to find solutions and implement semi and non-presence markets in West Africa.
  • Lastly, manage, oversee, and expand the corporate portfolio throughout the region and Africa.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree or advanced qualification in Finance/Business Administration or a related field
  • A decade of experience in the Financial Services industry that must encompass demonstrated expertise.
  • 5 years of experience at a senior management level in financial services
  • 5 years of experience in Corporate and Investment Banking
  • 5 years in a Regional Corporate Relationship position
  • Professional certification / pertinent accreditation or equivalent (ACIB, CFA, CIMA, etc.)

  • Background in leading varied teams
  • Experience of functioning in a dynamic setting.
  • Blend of risk consciousness and business acumen
  • Significant senior executive leadership experience in business
  • Essential is product knowledge and experience in acquiring clients.
