POSITION: Research Study Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Research Study Coordinator will assist with ongoing research activities on epidemiology and infectious diseases led by NAMRU-EURAFCENT in Ghana. This position involves overseeing the implementation of studies, managing data gathering processes, assisting with regulatory adherence, and ensuring the efficient functioning of research protocols. The perfect candidate will possess a solid foundation in public health or biology and have practical experience in infectious disease surveillance and research coordination in field settings.
The tasks outlined in this contract will be carried out at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit EURAFCENT offices in Cairo, Egypt, or at other specified sites under special conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with researchers, study personnel, suppliers, and participants to facilitate the execution of the study.
- Make certain that all research activities comply with established protocols and Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards.
- Aid in the drafting and filing of IRB papers and changes to the protocol.
- Supervise informed consent procedures while guaranteeing participant privacy and adherence to ethical guidelines.
- Gather, organize, and conduct fundamental analysis of research data utilizing authorized tools and software.
- Create and revise technical documents including abstracts, research reports, and manuscripts.
- Deliver consistent updates and briefings to project leaders and various stakeholders.
- Facilitate community participation and help train field personnel as needed.
- Perform quality assessments on gathered data and resolve operational problems encountered during data collection.
- Create and present findings from research to stakeholders or partner organizations.
Requirements
Essential Abilities and Understanding:
- Fundamental understanding of epidemiology, infectious disease investigation, and study management.
- Understanding fundamental disease causes and prevention methods.
- Familiarity with IRB protocol processes.
- Familiarity with survey techniques and fundamental statistics utilized to gather and analyze data.
- Proficient in utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email, and database applications.
- Proficient in composing memoranda, letters, summaries, essays, and proposals.
- Capacity to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Capacity to organize work tasks.
- Capacity to apply independent judgment in problem-solving situations.
- Capability to deliver presentations to audiences.
- Capacity to initiate projects and operate autonomously.
- Capacity to interact with researchers, suppliers, research personnel, and study subjects.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, biology, or a similar discipline. A higher degree is favoured, but not necessary.
- 2 to 4 years of relevant experience.
- Travel Criteria: Traveling may involve Djibouti, Jordan, Nigeria, along with additional nations in Africa and the Middle East, based on research needs.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
