Sack all striking workers, replace them with the military – Prof. Adei speaks

CLOGSAG neutrality allowance

Professor Stephen Adei, the former rector of GIMPA has described the neutrality allowance as bribery. His statement comes after CLOGSAG’s strike concerning the controversial neutrality allowance.

An agreement was reached between the government and CLOGSAG way back in January to pay a “neutrality allowance”. However, we are in the last week of April and there has not been any payment made. For this reason, workers in the civil and local government service have embarked on strike since April 21, 2022.

Commenting on the issue at hand, Professor Adei has said that government should sack all workers who have gone on strike. Afterward, the military should be put in place as they find new replacements for them.

The former rector states that government should not have agreed to pay the allowance. According to him, the country is in an Economic crisis.

He said, “They are taking the ordinary Ghanaian for granted, what about the unemployed? Are they more in need or less in need than the public servant? We are in a national crisis and that life is difficult, I have no doubt at all. But for the government to say they are going to pay, is bribery.

CONTINUATION OF PROF. ADEI’s VIEW ON THE ISSUE

Prof Adei continued by saying that “It is bribery, that I am going to pay so that you don’t go to the opposition or vice versa. To me, it is the worst I can ever think of as someone who was in the public sector for 35 years and was the head of the public service training institution. I just can’t conceptualize it,”

Even though, he highlighted the importance of CLOGSAG to the nation. He stated, “Sack them and bring in the military for emergencies for three months, after that they can apply if they want to remain neutral or continue to stay home,”

WHAT IS THE “NEUTRALITY ALLOWANCE”?

The neutrality allowance is an allowance agreed by the government to be paid to the civil and local government workers. The allowance is to stop them from engaging in political activities when embarking on their official duties.
