About the Role

Job Duties
- Lead and manage the provision of effective, efficient and professional SHE services to staff, contractors, tenants, and visitors ensuring full compliance.
- Provide professional health and safety advice and support to tenants in implementing STFC SHE management systems.
- Develop and review tenant health and safety systems and processes in line with internal audits, external best practice, and regulatory updates.
- Ensure all incidents including injuries, near misses, environmental events, and fires are reported, investigated, and appropriately addressed.
- Support the delivery of health and safety training programmes for tenants and site users.
- Attend and report to safety committee meetings and contribute to governance and oversight of SHE performance.
- Promote continuous improvement through horizon scanning and legislative monitoring.
Job Requirements
- Degree or HND qualification in a science or engineering discipline.
- NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals or equivalent qualification.
- Experience delivering SHE advisory services in science, engineering, or technology environments.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and management systems.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and hazardous substances management.
- Knowledge of biological safety (BioCOSHH) and genetically modified organisms regulations.
- Knowledge of DSEAR assessments and explosive atmosphere regulations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all organisational levels.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in large research or scientific organisations.
- Experience supporting multi-site health and safety operations.
- Knowledge of UKRI or public sector compliance frameworks.
- Experience delivering health and safety training programmes.
- Familiarity with complex laboratory or engineering environments.
