This initiative, supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and implemented by a network of Italian universities, continues to break down barriers. It creates safe educational corridors that allow talented displaced students to relocate to Italy and pursue English taught Master’s degrees. For the 2026–2028 academic period, the University of Messina offers two fully funded scholarships to qualified refugee candidates.

Eligibility Requirements

The UNICORE team actively seeks refugee students with academic potential and a strong motivation to succeed. You might be the ideal candidate if you meet these criteria:

You hold official refugee status or international protection in one of the eligible host countries.
You currently reside in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
You possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification for Master’s level admission.
You meet the academic requirements for an English taught Master’s program at the University of Messina.
You demonstrate strong academic motivation and the potential for graduate level study.
You fulfill the language requirements for your chosen program.
Lastly, you remain eligible to obtain a study visa for Italy.

Beyond these requirements, the program hopes you will actively contribute to the university community and engage in intercultural exchange during your time in Italy.
