Role: CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Most important jobs Goal of Job To help with the maintenance and construction of aprons, standpipes, permanent hand-washing stations, and other civil works like household latrines. To install hand pumps and submersible pumps in beneficiary communities and institutions. To build the skills of local artisans through training and coaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Watch over local craftspeople as they build aprons, standpipes, permanent hand washing stations, and any other WASH facilities that have been assigned.
- Check the building materials to see if they are right for the job and figure out the right mix ratio.
- Make it easier to set up hand pumps, submersible pumps, and their parts.
- Build the skills of local craftspeople, mechanics in the area, and volunteers who help with pump maintenance through training and coaching.
- Make sure that the requested amounts of materials, like HDPE pipes and fittings, are used on the field and the rest is sent back to the store.
- Help the supervisor and the communities or institutions that will benefit from the project talk to each other so that goals are met.
- Help with putting forward new designs and technologies that will be put into use.
- Make sure that Audit and Risk Assessment recommendations are carried out in WASH projects and their impact areas.
- Help make WASH activities happen and report on them monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually.
- Make sure that the WV vehicle and other equipment are well taken care of and used well.
Who qualifies: Education, technical skills, and experience
The following skills can be learned through a mix of formal education, self-education, previous experience, and training on the job:
- Level of education needed: Higher National Diploma in Building Technology, Civil
- Engineering, Certificate in National Vocational Training Institute Level II, or any other related qualification in the construction industry.
- Needed qualifications for technical training: Civil engineering or building
- Learn from: I’ve worked in the construction industry for ten years.
Other Skills or Qualities
- Skills and experience working with local craftspeople like masons, tilers, and plumbers.
- Experience with getting into and mobilizing communities and helping with development.
- Strong people skills and the ability to talk to others.
Show that you care about giving artisans in rural communities more power. - Must be a committed Christian and be able to rise above differences between Christian groups.
- Ability to learn new designs and how to use state-of-the-art equipment to make work easier.
- Strong communicator at all levels with the ability and willingness to listen to other people.
- Know how to manage the life cycles of programs and projects.
- Ability to keep working relationships with staff and key partners in good shape.
- Be able to do simple plumbing work.
- Monitoring, writing reports, and making proposals are skills
- Do other jobs as needed
Working Environment / Conditions
- The work environment is on the road and in the field.
- Most people travel: 90% There needs to be domestic and international travel.
- Bureau: 5%
- On-call: 5%
