VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship 2026/27

Applications are open for the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship 2026-27. This program helps student veterans advocate on Capitol Hill. VFW and Student Veterans of America jointly run this fellowship. Since 2014, fellows have engaged directly with Congress members. Participants sharpen advocacy skills while building national leadership connections. All program travel costs are fully covered for fellows.

Program Highlights

• Collaborate on a shared legislative advocacy priority
• Travel to SVA’s 19th Annual NatCon event
• Attend the VFW Washington Conference in D.C.
• Meet directly with congressional leadership and staff
• Join state VFW advocates for team advocacy meetings
• Open to students across all academic majors

• Hotel accommodations included throughout the program
• Ground transportation to meetings fully covered
• Daily per diem allowance provided during travel
• Possible college credit eligibility for participants

Who Can Apply

• Must be a current or eligible VFW member
• Must attend an accredited college or university
• Must provide proof of enrollment documentation
• Must submit proof of military service, DD214 preferred

Required Materials

• A 3–5 page essay on veteran advocacy and leadership
• A 30–60 second video describing your interest
• Unofficial transcript or enrollment verification
• Current resume
• A virtual or phone interview with selectors
