US Aims to Welcome More Students with 30% Increase in Visa Interviews
Mike Hankey, who is the US Consul General in Mumbai, said on Tuesday that the number of visa interview dates for Indian students will go up by 30% this summer.
The move is part of a plan to get more students from India to study in the United States.
Record Number of Indian Students Studied in the US Last Year
Hankey says that US consulates in India handled nearly 1.25 million visa requests from Indian students last year. He also said that more than 1.25 lakh Indian students went to the U.S. last year, which was more than ever before, and set a new record for the most Indian students learning in the U.S. in a single year.
Hankey went on to say that India was now the country that sent the most kids to the United States because of this success.
US Hopes to Welcome More Indian Students this Year
Hankey also said that the US wants to have more Indian students come to study here this year. The goal for this summer is to get 30% more interviews set up for Indian kids.
The American ambassador is hopeful that this plan will make it possible for more Indian kids to go to college in the United States.
