Job Title: Radio Communication Technician

Job Description

Underground Mining Alliance (UMAA) represents a strategic joint venture between African Underground Mining Services and Rocksure International, delivering advanced underground development and production services for AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine. Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Electrical Foreman, the Radio Communication Technician will ensure seamless communication across mining operations. This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing radio systems to enhance onsite safety, coordination, and efficiency.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Install, configure, and test communication equipment such as handheld radios, base stations, repeaters, and antennas.
Perform preventive maintenance and routine system inspections to guarantee operational reliability.
Diagnose and resolve equipment issues promptly, replacing faulty components to minimize downtime.
Update system firmware and software while monitoring radio frequency networks for interference.
Maintain detailed records of equipment inventory, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Provide user training and technical support to promote proper device handling and extended lifespan.
Ensure full compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and international communication guidelines.
Participate actively in safety meetings and contribute to a secure working environment.
Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
Maintain high housekeeping standards in workshops and job sites while sharing knowledge with team members.

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

BSc in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering with at least five years in hard rock underground mining, OR
A Diploma in Electrical/Electronic or Telecommunication Engineering with a minimum of ten years of relevant underground mining experience.

Additional Requirements:

Valid Ghanaian driving licenses (Classes C & E) and proficiency in operating manual SUVs underground.
Proven expertise in VHF/UHF radio systems, RF equipment, and related communication technologies.
Familiarity with signal analysis tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical schematics.
Comprehensive knowledge of Ghana’s Mining Act and associated regulations.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across diverse teams and cultures.
Outcome-focused mindset with flexibility to work day or night shifts as required.
