Underground Mining Alliance presents an outstanding opportunity for qualified Heavy Duty Fitters to join our operations in Obuasi. Job Summary
A Heavy Duty Fitter plays a critical role in maintaining the operational integrity of our underground mining fleet. You will become an integral part of our maintenance team, ensuring that heavy equipment operates at peak performance levels while maintaining stringent safety standards. Furthermore, this position allows you to work alongside experienced industry professionals in a dynamic and outcome focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform workshop servicing duties across our extensive fleet of underground mining equipment
- Respond promptly to machine breakdowns occurring both underground and on surface locations
- Conduct thorough inspections and repairs on Sandvik equipment including trucks, boggers, development drills, and production drills
- Maintain Normet Charmec machinery, Agi Trucks, Spraymec units, and Volvo Integrated tool carriers
- Diagnose complex mechanical and hydraulic faults utilising schematics, technical manuals, and electronic testing equipment
- Adjust equipment settings to achieve optimal performance levels while replacing faulty components
- Rebuild worn and damaged equipment components to restore functionality
- Execute routine daily services and time based maintenance schedules on heavy duty vehicles
- Proactively inspect machinery and organise necessary parts before equipment failures develop
- Perform major component change outs including buckets, engines, transmissions, and drivelines when required
- Collaborate with fellow mechanics to share knowledge and enhance repair outcomes
- Report damaged equipment and required repair items to supervisors promptly
Required Qualifications and Experience
Educational Requirements:
- NVTI Part III certification, diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution
- MINCOM Certification as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Fitter will provide a significant advantage
Experience Criteria:
- Minimum three years of underground experience in hard rock mining environments
- Proven track record working with mechanised mining haulage equipment
- Demonstrated expertise in repairing and maintaining Sandvik drills including DD421, DD422I, DL431, and DL421 models
- Hands on experience with Sandvik loaders LH517i, LH621, LH621i, and TH663 and TH663i trucks
- Practical exposure to Normet Charmec charging machines, Normet Agitator trucks, Normet Spraymec concrete sprayers, and Volvo L120F tool carriers
Licensing and Skills:
- Valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses covering Class C and E categories
- Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles underground
- Strong team collaboration capabilities
- Self driven attitude combined with excellent work ethic
- Courteous communication skills with coworkers
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and work rotating shifts
- Basic understanding of computer testing technologies
- Deep knowledge of diesel engines and mining equipment
- Flexibility to undertake varied tasks and assist where needed
