ROLE: Underground Surveyor
Position Description
UMA is looking for a certified, experienced, and enthusiastic Surveyor to join our Survey Team. These are Fixed Term employment in Obuasi with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi. Summary
The Underground Surveyor will be responsible for assisting the Senior Surveyor in the delivery of UMA site survey requirements, reporting to the Senior Surveyor.
Principal Responsibilities:
- It is necessary to verify that the company’s safety standards and procedures are followed.
- Ensure that the work environment is safe for individuals and equipment to execute their tasks.
- Designing and marking development and production drilling holes according to required patterns;
- Assess the ground conditions at the face and execute ground control as needed.
- Perform survey pick-ups, CMS, Gyro Surveys, stakeouts, and other subsurface surveys.
- Upkeep of survey database and equipment
- Coordinating with all departments to achieve a smooth and efficient operation
- Implementing continuous improvement strategies within the survey team;
- Follow applicable Mines Safety and Inspection Acts and Regulations;
- Capable of working alone, but also a good team player in the survey department.
Required Qualifications or Experience
- A tertiary degree in Geomatic Engineering from a recognized university is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of underground mining experience in a comparable role is required.
- Hands-on Surpac experience is advantageous.
- Must be familiar with the Republic of Ghana’s Mining Act and related laws.
- A valid Ghanaian driving and operating license (C – Classes) is required.
- You must be able to drive a manual SUV.
- Previous experience operating in hard rock underground mines (including international underground mining);
- Capability to work autonomously/independently with minimal supervision
- Leadership talents and the ability to operate in a collaborative atmosphere are required.
- A heavy emphasis on safety and hazard identification;
- Must have a strong work ethic and be able to converse politely with coworkers.
- Ability to operate under pressure and a strong will to succeed;
- Capability to work a day and night shift rotation
