The secretary of state for legal migration and the border, Thomas Glove, provided important updates on the timing for implementing the five-point plan that was unveiled on December 4, 2023, indicating that the UK government is making significant adjustments to its immigration policy.

Furthermore, as stated on January 30, 2024, these modifications will impact several Visa categories, create new standards for both employers and immigrants and reassess the legal migration framework in the UK. Let’s examine the important changes to UK immigration law.

Health and Care Visa Adjustments

As of March 11, 2024, care workers and senior care workers will not be allowed to bring dependents into the UK due to new immigration regulations that were implemented on February 19, 2024.

Family and spouse visa requirements

Furthermore, the minimum income criteria for family visas will climb to £29,000 on April 11, 2024, to raise it to £38,700 by early 2025.

Skilled worker visa thresholds

The income criteria for skilled worker visas will increase from £26,200 to £38,700 on April 4, 2024.

Shortage occupation list revisions

For jobs on the shortage occupation list, the 20% wage deduction will be replaced by a new immigration salary list by April 2024.

Increased Civil Penalties for Illegal Employment

As the UK navigates these developments, all parties involved—employers, immigrants, and legal professionals—must continue to learn about and be ready for the changing immigration landscape. Stated differently, these modifications reflect the government’s strategy for meeting the need for skilled labor while upholding the integrity of its borders and immigration laws.

Changes Relating to Care Workers & Senior Care Workers in The Skilled Worker Route

Do you know about the most recent modifications to the skilled worker route? Read on to learn about the most recent adjustments.

The Prime Minister and Home Secretary announced on December 4, 2023, a plan to curb immigration misuse and reduce net migration. Speaking of which, this approach is expected to reduce the 300,000 individuals who would have been initially eligible under last year’s standards but are no longer eligible this year, in addition to the package that was already adopted to minimize student dependents.

Furthermore, some of the package’s objectives are also incorporated into these modifications. These include making it illegal for senior care workers and caregivers from abroad to bring their relatives into the UK and requiring care providers who want to sponsor immigrants to register with the Care Quality Commission.

Stated differently, these measures will guarantee that we continue to safeguard our social care systems and the National Health Service (NHS) while addressing grave concerns about high levels of non-compliance and worker exploitation and abuse within the adult social care sector, particularly for foreign workers employed in care occupations.

For caregivers and senior caregivers who are already en route, there is some good news. Considering that the CQC regulatory requirement does not apply, you can now settle by extending your authorization with the same sponsor.
